  • Patent number: 4369343
Abstract: An apparatus for suppressing noise radiating from an ignition system for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The ignition system comprises a distributor which uses an electrically conductive ceramic or a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) thermistor as a material for a rotary electrode and/or stationary electrodes. At least a spark discharging portion of the rotary electrode and/or spark discharging portions of the stationary electrodes are formed from the electrically conductive ceramic which has a resistivity ranging from 10.sup.-6 to 10.sup.-2 ohm.multidot.cm or from the PTC thermistor. Cooperating with them are the high resistor spark plug and the high tension resistor cable. The high resistor spark plug herein disclosed uses an elongate monolithic resistor which has a length not shorter than 8 mm and preferrably has a length of 15 mm.

  • Patent number: 4275690
Abstract: An ignition distributor is disclosed which comprises an input terminal, output terminals, a rotor adapted to rotate with rotation of an engine and provided at its one end with a magnet, a first electrode facing the rotor and coupled to the input terminal, a piezo-conductive plate placed on the surface of the first electrode opposite to the rotor, second electrodes formed of magnetic material and connected to the output terminals, respectively, and the second electrodes circumferentially arranged on the piezo-conductive plate. When the rotor rotates to bring the magnet below one of the second electrodes, the one second electrode is attracted to exert a pressure on the piezo-conductive plate so as to render it conductive thereby establishing an electrical connection between the input terminal and the output terminal connected to the one second electrode.

  • Patent number: 4274695
Abstract: A device for electrically connecting a spark plug to a high-voltage cable supplying a high voltage to the spark plug from an ignition coil, comprising a connecting member whose maximum length in the axial direction of the spark plug is selected to be not longer than 25 mm so as to reduce the antenna effect in the area including the connecting member thereby minimizing undesirable radiation of noise which provides radio interference against other electronic units.

  • Patent number: 4227446
Abstract: An electronic air cleaner having therein an electrostatic precipitator, an ultraviolet lamp, a deodorizing filter and at least one lead wire which extends along the deodorizing filter from an electric power source to a socket of the ultraviolet lamp. A channel-shaped holder receives in the channel thereof a lower section of a frame of the deodorizing filter so as to form in the channel an enclosed space through which the lead wire passes. At least the wall portions bounding the enclosed space are constructed of electrically conductive material and are grounded so that any noise wave emitted from the lead wire positioned within the enclosed space is prevented from leaking out by the shielding function of the conductive wall portions.

  • Patent number: 4146759
Abstract: An ignition distributor for automotive vehicles comprises a shaft, a rotor arm mounted on the shaft for rotation therewith, a stationary center electrode mounted coaxially with the shaft, and a plurality of angularly spaced stationary outer electrodes. A contact member is secured to the rotor arm which extends between the center of the shaft and a point adjacent to the outer electrode and comprises a baseplate secured to the rotor arm and a resistive film secured to the baseplate, the latter being in electrical contact with the center electrode and in radially inwardly spaced from the outer electrode such that a sudden breakdown of air occurs when the outer end of the contact plate is positioned in proximity to the outer electrode generating an electric discharge. The baseplate is composed of a material having lower electrical conductivity than that of the resistive film so that a distributed constant RC transmission path is formed along the passage of the discharge current.
