    Abstract: A device (10) which can operate as a pump or a valve includes a pump chamber (31), a fluid inlet passageway (34) and a fluid outlet passageway (37). A valve assembly (40) is positioned between the fluid inlet passageway (34) and the pump chamber (31) and between the pump chamber (31) and the fluid outlet passageway (37). A drive member (17) carries a plunger (20) which carries a diaphragm (24) and, when the effluent fluid destination is above the source of the fluid, the drive member (17) reciprocates the diaphragm (20) in the pump chamber (31) to pump fluid from the fluid inlet passageway (34), through the valve assembly (40), into the pump chamber (31), through the valve assembly (40) and through the fluid outlet passageway (37).

    Abstract: A pump (10) has a housing which forms a pump chamber (17) having a wall (18). Inlet and outlet valve assemblies (19, 20) communicate with the chamber (17) and, respectively, allow fluid to be received in, and discharged from, the chamber (17). An armature (27) carries a plunger (28) and is reciprocatably moved by an electromagnetic coil assembly (25). A coil spring (44) biases the plunger (28) toward a stop surface (41) positioned adjacent to the plunger (28). Upon activation of the coil assembly (25), the plunger. (28) is moved against the force of the spring (44) such that a diaphragm (31) carried by the plunger (28) moves into the chamber (17) without engaging the wall (18) to discharge fluid through the outlet valve assembly (20). When the coil assembly (25) is deactivated, the spring (44) moves the plunger (28) toward the stop surface (41) without allowing it to engage the stop surface (41) to draw fluid in through the inlet valve assembly (19).

    Abstract: A filtration device for use in filtering air used to purge a vapor storage canister used in connection with a fuel vapor recovery system of an automobile. The device includes a housing. In some instances, the housing may be integral to another component. The housing has a chamber having an arcuate inner surface. Air flowing into the chamber through an inlet port strikes the arcuate interior surface and is redirected such that the air rotates in said chamber. The centrifugal force of the rotating air filters out any contaminants of sufficient mass contained therein. The filtered air is removed via an outlet port positioned near the longitudinal-axis of the chamber. Contaminants removed from the air fall due to gravity or a secondary air flow pattern into a collection portion of the housing.

    Abstract: A pump (10) includes a chamber (14) communicating with a fluid inlet (12) and a fluid outlet (13) above the centerline thereof to minimize dead air space where air bubbles might form. A connector (21) having a bend or elbow (26) is formed at the fluid inlet (12). Upon actuation of a solenoid (37), a plunger (39) carrying a diaphragm (42) is moved to draw fluid around the elbow (26), through a valve (19) positioned at the fluid inlet (12), through the chamber (14), and out of the pump (10) through a valve (30) positioned at the fluid outlet (13). The energy of the fluid which might otherwise create a water hammer effect is absorbed by the elbow (26) prior to reaching the pump (10).

    Abstract: A housing (10), (54) defines a well which holds a diaphragm assembly (12). The diaphragm assembly has a stud portion (14) that extends through an aperture in the housing and is biased into the housing by a spring (16). The stud portion defines a channel (18) which is received in a slot between arms of a calibration plate (20). Movement of the calibration plate transverse to the axis of the stud portion engages a cam surface (24) to position the diaphragm, more particularly a dielectric button (34) which engages a switch control member (50). As a fluid in a bulb (32) expands, it causes the diaphragm to expand, moving the control member (50) and one end of control spring portion (48) causing contacts (46, 52) to open. When the temperature of the bulb reaches the temperature set by the calibration plate, the control spring portion flexes opening the contacts. To reset the switch and close the contacts, a reset member (92) is depressed.
