  • Patent number: 8307056
Abstract: A method is described for controlling a shared resource for interconnecting two or more network domains being controlled by different Managers. Multiple Managers control the shared resource for the configuration of a segment of a connection between two different domains and the Managers cooperate in order to control dynamically the shared resource. Different network domains can be connected by a network element or by a link between different network elements belonging to the different network domains. In the first case the shared resource is a connection matrix of the network element, in the second case the shared resource includes the connection matrixes of the different network elements and the link between the network elements.

  • Patent number: 7742403
Abstract: A method is described for checking deadlock in a telecommunication network including a first activated backup connection for protecting traffic over a first intended connection. The method includes the steps of checking a reversion blocked status of the first intended connection by checking if the segments of the first intended connection are available or not available, in case of detecting the reversion blocked status of the first intended connection identifying activated backup connections using the not available segments of the first intended connection, identifying the corresponding intended connections, checking the reversion blocked status of each identified corresponding intended connection by checking if the corresponding segments are available or not available, in case of detecting the reversion blocked status of an identified corresponding intended connection checking if a corresponding not available segment is included in the first backup connection.

  • Publication number: 20060271702
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of determining a path in a telecommunication network from a source node to a destination node, the telecommunication network comprising at least two layers, the method comprising: calculating at least one possible path between said source node and said destination node; and allocating a path among said at least one possible path. According to the invention, the step of calculating at least one possible path comprises taking into account both at least one path link of one of the at least two layers and at least one path link of another of the at least two layers.

  • Publication number: 20060114818
Abstract: A method is described for calculating a backup connection for restoring a nominal connection in a telecommunication network. The method performs the calculation of the backup connection taking into account updated values of parameters indicating at least one dynamic feature of a group of segments of the network. The dynamic parameters can be a measure of the performance of the segment, the degree of usage of the segment, the bandwidth overbooking of the segment or the bandwidth fragmentation or a combination of these measures.

  • Publication number: 20050105462
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for restoring a connection in a telecommunication network provided with a management plane, a control plane and a transport plane, wherein a nominal path corresponds to said connection; the method comprises the steps of: a) detecting and localizing a fault within the network affecting said connection, b) identifying an alternative path able to recover from said fault, c) replacing the nominal path with the alternative path in the transport plane for realizing said connection; in order to carry out step c), path segments comprised in the nominal path but not in the alternative path are deleted in the transport plane, path segments comprised in the alternative path but not in the nominal path are provisioned in the transport plane, and path segments comprised in the nominal path and in the alternative path are maintained in the transport plane.

  • Publication number: 20050021709
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for creating a protocol-independent manager/agent relationship, in a Network Management System of a telecommunication network. This is achieved by means of the creation of a meta-model as a result of CSG (CORBA Strategy Gateway) tool chain. It permits to have a generic skeleton based on XML (extensible Markup Language) as a reference for NM application starting points. This skeleton permits an application to be independent from NE-NM interface descriptions irrespective of the NE-NM model and version supported. The skeleton describes the different implementations using unified rules based on the W3 standardized XML commands.

  • Publication number: 20050015478
Abstract: The present invention provides for a method for having the same interface family used to connect all possible kinds of network elements in a telecom network, by creating a CSG (CORBA Strategy Gateway) interface between Common Element Manager and Network Manager layers, to be protocol independent because, irrespective of the protocol used, the services provided are always the same. This generic layer will be used as a syntactical adaptation between NM and NE without taking into account the semantic of the exchanged messages.

  • Publication number: 20040172597
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for implementing a zero development WEB-based Graphical User Interface, in which an XML model coming from the protocol dependent MIB and automatically translated by the EM-NM MIB model is created. The XML model can be easily managed by an HTTP server and protocol, and displayed by a WEB browser, with no need to add any software.

  • Publication number: 20030212782
Abstract: In a communications transport network (ITN) of the type comprising a plurality of network elements (NE), at least one service agreements management centre (PS) and a plurality of service agreements enforcement points (PC) associated to network elements (NE) of the network (ITN) are provided; the points (PC) are in communication with the centre (PS) according to a certain protocol, and this protocol provides for messages for sending a service start request from a point to a centre, messages for sending a service stop request from a point to a centre, messages for sending a service start decision from a centre to a point, and messages for sending a service stop decision from a centre to a point; when a time constrained service start is requested by a point (PC) to the centre (PS), the centre (PS) arranges means for monitoring the time constraint and when the time constraint is no longer complied with the centre (PS) decides a time constrained service stop and instructs the point (PC) accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20030202518
Abstract: In a communications transport network (ITN) of the type comprising a plurality of network elements (NE), a policy network is provided comprising a policy server (PS) and a plurality of policy clients (PC) associated to network elements (NE) of the transport network (ITN); users of the transport network (ITN) are able to directly provision communications transport services. When a connection within the transport network (ITN) is removed, the or each policy client (PC) associated to this connection causes the deletion of the or each state associated to this connection within the policy server (PS) and thereafter the policy server (PS) considers this connection as removed.

  • Publication number: 20020188662
Abstract: Described is a method for detecting the isolation condition between Agent and Manager processing entities in a telecommunications network management system using a connection-less communication protocol, that provides for detecting the isolation through the simulation of the establishment of a connection. It consists in the periodic exchange between the Manager and the Agent of a polling message sent by the Manager to the Agent and of a polling response sent by the Agent to the Manager, and in the consequent receipt check of said messages.

  • Publication number: 20020080948
Abstract: A method is described for the management of the communications of events (such as e.g. alarms) between Agent- and Manager-type processing entities, in particular for connectionless communication protocols, in a telecommunication network management system, that implements a procedure adapted to increase the reliability of the event communication system, whereby the Agent sends alert notifications to the Manager to report the occurrence of new events. The alert notifications can be sent at fixed timeout and/or after a number of generated events. The Manager can however maintain a timeout polling mechanism for the periodic reading of the events in the Agent, and further the Agent can send very urgent or important notifications to the Manager.
