    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes first and second substrates with a liquid crystal layer disposed therebetween, a display region and a peripheral region, a gate signal line and an image signal line, an insulating layer formed over the gate signal line and the image signal line, a pixel electrode formed in the display region, a counter electrode formed over the insulating layer and formed by a first transparent conductive layer, and a second transparent conductive layer and an external connection terminal. The second transparent conductive layer and the external connection terminal are disposed in the peripheral region, and the second transparent conductive layer is formed over the insulating layer and is electrically connected to the counter electrode and the external connection terminal. A part of the gate signal line is covered by the second transparent conductive layer in the peripheral region.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a pixel electrode and a counter electrode, an insulation film, and a first orientation film formed over the pixel electrode and the counter electrode on the first substrate, the first orientation film being responsive to a radiated polarized light to obtain an initial orientation direction. A second substrate is opposed to the first substrate, a second orientation film is formed over the second substrate, and a liquid crystal is sealed between the first and second substrates. The first and second orientation films are made of polyimide, the liquid crystal has negative dielectric anisotropy, and the liquid crystal display device is normally in a black mode. An angle formed between the electric field and the initial orientation direction of the first orientation film is in a range of greater than 0° to 45°.

An angle formed between the electric field and the initial orientation direction of the first orientation film is in a range of greater than 0° to 45°.

Pixel areas are defined by the video signal and scan signal lines, and each pixel area has the display electrode, a reference electrode and the active device. Display electrodes are arranged on the first substrate and reference electrodes are arranged the second substrate. A part of the reference electrodes have a plurality layers and is conductive. A sealing material is formed between the substrates and along a periphery thereof and include conductive beads. A connecting terminal is formed from an edge of the first substrate to under the sealing material, and is connected electrically to the reference electrodes thorough the sealing material.
