Publication number: 20240061686Abstract: A method of activating a head-worn device is disclosed. The method includes activating the head-worn device and performing a partial bootup. When an user-input instruction to perform a function is received, it is determined whether or not the user-input instruction is permitted for partial bootup execution. The user-input instruction is executed based on the user-input instruction being permitted for partial bootup execution, and a bootup of the head-work device is completed based on the user-input instruction not being permitted for partial bootup execution. The method may further comprise determining if the user-input instruction requires user authentication in order to be executed, and based on the user-input instruction being partial bootup compatible and not requiring user authentication, executing the user-input instruction.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2023Publication date: February 22, 2024Inventors: Adithya Gajulapally, Jonathan Geddes, Hwan Moon Lee, Mathieu Emmanuel Vignau, Aaron Wangugi

Patent number: 11899204Abstract: The user interface of an electronic eyewear device tracks a user's head movement to keep the user interface in front of the user's eyes. A position forward vector, a rotation forward vector, and an up vector are defined to enable the system to individually adjust the rates of translation and rotation of the user interface as the user's head moves through space. By disconnecting the translation and rotation of the user interface from the head forward vector, the rates of translation and rotational movement of the user interface are separated from the rate of movement of the user's head to enable a delay in user interface movement relative to head movement for a more realistic VR/AR 3D presentation. The pitch angle is monitored to maintain the user interface in front of the user's eyes in the correct orientation even at difficult pitch angles such as straight up or straight down.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2021Date of Patent: February 13, 2024Assignee: Snap Inc.Inventor: Mathieu Emmanuel Vignau

Patent number: 11886633Abstract: Systems, devices, media, and methods are presented for displaying a virtual object on the display of a portable eyewear device using motion data gathered by a face-tracking application on a mobile device. A controller engine leverages the processing power of a mobile device to locate the face supporting the eyewear, locate the hand holding the mobile device, acquire the motion data, and calculate an apparent path of the virtual object. The virtual object is displayed in a series of locations along the apparent path, based on both the course traveled by the mobile device (in the hand) and the track traveled by the eyewear device (on the face), so that the virtual object is persistently viewable to the user.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2023Date of Patent: January 30, 2024Assignee: Snap Inc.Inventors: Ilteris Canberk, Dhritiman Sagar, Mathieu Emmanuel Vignau

Publication number: 20230297164Abstract: A method for improving the startup time of a six-degrees of freedom tracking system is described. An augmented reality system receives a device initialization request and activates a first set of sensors in response to the device initialization request. The augmented reality system receives first tracking data from the first set of sensors. The augmented reality system receives an augmented reality experience request and in response to the augmented reality request, causes display of a set of augmented reality content items based on the first tracking data and simultaneously activates a second set of sensors. The augmented reality system receives second tracking data from the activated second set of sensors. The augmented reality system updates the display of the set of augmented reality content items based on the second tracking data.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2023Publication date: September 21, 2023Inventors: Jeroen Diederik Hol, Matthias Kalkgruber, Erick Mendez Mendez, Niall Murphy, Gerald Nilles, Mathieu Emmanuel Vignau
