Publication number: 20220351481Abstract: A biometric sensor may include a scanner configured to capture a biometric data and an adjustment mechanism configured to respond to a force applied to the biometric sensor by shifting the biometric sensor from a neutral position to an adjusted position. The adjustment mechanism may be configured to respond to the removal of the force by returning the biometric sensor to the neutral position. While the biometric sensor is in the neutral position, the scanner may be capable of capturing a biometric data of a majority of users interacting with the apparatus. Accordingly, the biometric sensor may be able to operate with minimal adjustments. The biometric sensor may be part of a dispensing cabinet such that the biometric data captured by the biometric sensor may be used to control access to the dispensing cabinet. Related methods are also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 29, 2022Publication date: November 3, 2022Inventors: David Hoard, Michael Becker, Matias Negatu, Benjamin Greuel, Mariano Padilla

Patent number: 10518540Abstract: A rotary wiper assembly for a fluid-ejection printhead that has fluid-ejection nozzles includes one or more wipers and a rotatable shaft to which the wipers are at least indirectly attached. The rotatable shaft is to rotate the wipers to a static wiping position. While the wipers are stationary in the static wiping position, the fluid-ejection printhead is to move back and forth in relation to the wipers while the wipers are not to move, to cause the wipers to come into contact with the fluid-ejection nozzles to wipe material from the fluid-ejection nozzles.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2016Date of Patent: December 31, 2019Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Jacinto Berrios, Michael W. Patent number: 6454476Abstract: An apparatus and method for picking and feeding a single sheet from a stack. A pick roller and a retard roller are held together in a pick assembly, and positioned so that the pick roller is in contact with the top surface of the top sheet and adjacent a leading edge of the top sheet. The pick roller is driven to pick a sheet from the stack, pulling the sheet into the nip between the pick roller and the retard roller. The retard roller applies a retard force to the retard roller tending to resist the rotation of the retard roller as print media is driven into the nip during a pick operation. The retard force is less than a feed force applied to the top sheet by the pick roller as the top sheet is passed into the nip, the retard force being greater than a sheet-to-sheet frictional drag force between the top sheet and an adjacent sheet, thereby separating an adjacent sheet from the top sheet to prevent multiple sheet picks.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1999Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Matias Negatu, Szymon Morawski

Patent number: 6267466Abstract: Optical encoder system designs and methods for use thereof in printing devices are disclosed which are directed to solving problems caused by contaminant matter accumulating on optical encoder strips as well as scratching of optical encoder strips. An embodiment includes a dispenser and a take-up mechanism. The dispenser includes an encoder strip having first and second lengths. The second length of encoder strip is substantially free of contaminant matter. The first length of the encoder strip is coupled to the take-up mechanism so that the first length of the encoder strip is positioned between the dispenser and take-up mechanism. The take-up mechanism is configured to advance at least a portion of the second length of the encoder strip from the dispenser to a position between the dispenser and take-up mechanism upon actuation of the take-up mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1998Date of Patent: July 31, 2001Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Algird M Gudaitis, Ronald A Juve, Rick M Tanaka, Matias Negatu
