  • Publication number: 20110035780
Abstract: A session management involves registering at least one IPTV application (54) in a registration table (170) so that the registration table (170) comprises at least a respective identifier of the IPTV applications (54). The IPTV applications (54) are invokable at a set top box (50) and can be so-called embedded applications and/or browser-based applications. An event requiring the invocation of an IPTV application (54) at the set top box (50) is detected and triggers a look-up in the registration table (170). The registration table (170) is, thus, used as source to indicate those IPTV applications that are potentially available and can be launched at the set top box (50). One of the registered applications (54) and is launched for the purpose of handling the detected event.

  • Publication number: 20090207839
Abstract: A method and nodes in a communication network for controlling multi-cast delivery of files, wherein the multi-cast delivery is adapted to reduce the amount of required uni-cast file deliveries in the communication network. A browser of an IPTV Terminating Function requiring a file interrogates a cache of the IFT for the file content before a uni-cast request for file delivery is sent to an Application Service Platform. The files stored in the cache have been previously delivered to the IFT via the proposed multi-cast mechanism. If the file content is not stored in the cache, a uni-cast request is sent to the ASP. Each uni-cast request is also forwarded to a Multi-Cast Controller, which determines whether the requested file should be sent also to a plurality of additional IFTs on a multi-cast channel. At each IFT, listening to the multi-cast channel, the received content can be handled selectively according to a filtering mechanism, and a received file may, e.g. be stored in the cache for later retrieval.

  • Patent number: 6526039
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for facilitating the timing (e.g., the known relative timing differences) of base stations (BSs) in asynchronous CDMA mobile communications systems. A plurality of mobile stations (MSs) measure the relative time differences between various pairs of BSs, and these measurements are stored by the BSs. A source BS sends to an MS, in a neighbor list message, estimates of the relative time difference between the source BS and each of the BSs on the neighboring cell list. Each BS on the list can maintain a relative time difference estimate table, which can be updated continuously from the reports received from MSs. Subsequently, the BSs can send entries from this table to the MS in the neighbor list message. Using this novel technique, the BSs have known relative timing differences. Consequently, when the MS initiates a cell-search for a candidate BS, the MS already has an estimate of the timing of that BS as compared to its source BS.

  • Patent number: 6356763
Abstract: A mobile communication station in a wireless communication network is used to measure the respective times of arrival of radio signals respectively transmitted by a plurality of radio transmitters in the network. The mobile communication station is provided with real time difference information indicative of differences between a time base used by a radio transmitter serving the mobile communication station and respective time bases used by the other radio transmitters. The mobile communication station determines, in response to the real time difference information and relative to the time base used by the radio transmitter serving the mobile communication station, a plurality of points in time at which the respective radio signals are expected to arrive at the mobile communication station. For each radio signal, the mobile communication station monitors for arrival of the radio signal during a period of time after the point in time at which the radio signal is expected to arrive.
