    Abstract: A beating apparatus for a thick fabric, comprising a reed supported for advancing and retracting movement, and including a reed frame and a plurality of dents supported by the reed frame for movement toward and away from each other. The beating apparatus also comprises a mechanism engaging the dents to move the dents towards and away from each other, thereby to decrease and increase spacing between the dents, in correlation with advancing and retracting movement, respectively, of the reed.
