  • Patent number: 10285649
Abstract: Techniques are described for collecting sensor data associated with a wheelchair and, based on the sensor data, determining metric(s) for a user of the wheelchair. Sensor(s) attached to, or in proximity to, the wheelchair may collect sensor data describing the wheelchair and/or its component(s), such as location, velocity, acceleration, direction of movement, orientations (e.g., pitch, yaw, roll), angular velocity of wheels, angular acceleration of wheels, and so forth. The sensor data may be analyzed to determine (e.g., fitness) metrics such as a caloric burn rate, a metabolic burn rate, and/or power expenditure of the user while the user is employing the wheelchair to exercise or otherwise move. The metric(s) and/or sensor data may be presented to the user through a user interface on a smartphone, tablet computer, wearable computer, or other device, to enable the user to monitor fitness metric(s) during use of the wheelchair.

  • Patent number: 7412267
Abstract: A method and apparatus for combining an attachment and acoustic port on a housing of a mobile device is disclosed herein. The mobile device includes a speaker disposed within the housing. A combined attachment and acoustic port disposed on the housing is configured to project audible sound from the speaker, via an acoustic channel, and includes an attachment member for attaching an external member to the mobile device. The mobile device may comprise any personal electronic device, such as a portable radio, cassette player, CD player, or MP3 player. Further, the mobile device may comprise a mobile communication device, such as a cellular telephone, pager, or PDA.

  • Patent number: 7388619
Abstract: A combination camera and loudspeaker is described herein. The combination camera and loudspeaker includes a lens for selectively manipulating an image and a loudspeaker assembly disposed proximate the lens for projecting audible sounds. In one embodiment, a transparent piezo-electric aligned with at least a portion of the lens projects audible sound based on electrical signals applied to the piezo-electric diaphragm. In another embodiment, a speaker coil and magnet within the loudspeaker assembly encircles an outer perimeter of the lens, while a transparent diaphragm connected to the speaker coil and aligned with at least a portion of the lens projects audible sound based on the interaction between the speaker coil and magnet. The camera captures an image when light is transmitted through the transparent diaphragm to the camera lens. Further, the combination camera and loudspeaker may include a controller for selectively controlling optical properties of the transparent diaphragm.

  • Publication number: 20050136848
Abstract: A portable electronic device is provided that includes a housing and first and second spaced apart transducers positioned in the housing. A multi-mode audio processor circuit is configured to transmit sound from the first transducer in a first mode of operation and to generate a composite audio signal from sound energy received by the first and second transducers in a second mode of operation. Related mobile terminals and methods of operating portable electronic devices are also provided.
