  • Patent number: 11666875
Abstract: A dispensing device, comprising a plurality of microfluidic pumps, microfluidic valves, and a microfluidic mixer chip, for receiving and mixing microfluidic amounts of a plurality of fluids having differing viscosities, is disclosed. The device includes a plurality of pathways for moving fluids from associated reservoirs to the microfluidic mixer chip. A mix controller controls the microfluidic pumps and valves so that the fluids, having different viscosities, can be accurately mixed at specified microfluidic amounts or volumes according to a specified microfluidic recipe, and the microfluidic mixture dispensed from the device. The device can be in communication with a software application implemented on a mobile compute device, such as a smartphone, and receive instructions for implementing the specified microfluidic recipe from the software application such that the operation of device components is at the direction of the software application executed on the mobile compute device.

  • Patent number: 8584956
Abstract: A new approach is proposed that contemplates systems and methods to enable an individual to complete a financial transaction by swiping a magnetic stripe card through a card reader connected to a mobile device. The size of the card reader is miniaturized to be portable for connection with the mobile device. The card reader is configured to reliably read data encoded in a magnetic strip of the card with minimum error in a single swipe and provide a signal that corresponds to the data read to the mobile device, which then decodes the incoming signal from the card reader and acts as a point-of-sale device to complete the financial transaction. Such an approach enables a person to become either a micro-merchant (payee) or a buyer/customer (payer) without having to purchase expensive card reader devices or software.

  • Patent number: 8563122
Abstract: A thermoplastic architectural composite laminate material can include a light transmissive skin, a thermoplastic backing, an adhesive layer and an ink image. The adhesive layer can be between the light transmissive skin and the thermoplastic backing. The ink image can be printed between the light transmissive skin and the thermoplastic backing such that the ink image is visible through the outer surface. The composite laminate materials can be designed with improved temperature fluctuation tolerance, long-term moisture resistance, and tensile and peel strength. Further, the ink image in conjunction with certain adhesives can be highly durable. Such ink images can have a convincing appearance of natural materials such as marble, granite, wood, and the like, including wet-out and depth appearance which can be tailored in appearance and colors.

  • Patent number: 8305912
Abstract: Networks and methods are disclosed for providing an indication of the capability of a communication network for serving special number calls. Before a user places a special number call, the communication network determines the capability of the communication network for serving a special number call, and provides the indication of the network capability to the user. The user is thus kept aware of the quality of the special number service available to them through the communication network.

  • Patent number: 8052581
Abstract: A dual actuation mechanism for controlling resistance applied to a rotating member includes a lever, a first actuator and a second actuator. The first actuator and second actuator are both operably coupled to the lever, wherein the first actuator and the second actuator move the lever independent of the other. For example, the lever may have a first slot for receiving the first actuator and a second slot for receiving the second actuator, wherein the first slot and second slot are sized such that when one actuator moves the lever, the other actuator is undisturbed because the respective slot moves with respect to the non-moving actuator. The dual actuation mechanism may be incorporated in an exercise cycle in which one of the actuators controls a level of resistance applied to a flywheel, and the other of the actuators selectively applies a stopping force to the flywheel.
