  • Publication number: 20080301133
Abstract: A location recognition technique that involves using a query image to identify a depicted location is presented. In addition to the query image, there is also a pre-constructed database of features which are associated with images of known locations. The technique matches features derived from the query image to the database features using a specialized vocabulary tree, which is referred to as an informative feature vocabulary tree. The informative feature vocabulary tree is specialized because it was generated using just those database features that have been deemed informative of known locations. The aforementioned matching features are used to identify a known location image that matches the query image. The location associated with that known location image is then deemed to be the location depicted in the query image.

  • Publication number: 20080298706
Abstract: A focal length estimation technique is presented that estimates the focal length used to capture each of a pair of overlapping images taken by a camera rotating about its center. When it is known that the focal length is the same for both images, it is estimated using just two pairs of corresponding points between the images. When it is either unknown whether the focal lengths are the same or it is known that they vary, the focal length of each image is estimated using just three pairs of corresponding points between the images.

  • Patent number: 7451508
Abstract: A support pillow that comprises a pillow body having a medial region and two curved arms that extend from the medial region to define a generally open well. A back rest extends vertically upward from the medial region. This configuration permits an infant to be placed in the open well, with the curved arms of the pillow body supporting the infant from tipping side to side and the back rest supporting the infant's back. Conveniently, the back rest may be incorporated into a slipcover that is placed over the pillow body.

  • Publication number: 20080260274
Abstract: A local image descriptor generation technique that produces a descriptor for an image patch is presented. The technique generally involves smoothing the pixels of the image patch, followed by employing a transformation to produce a transform vector for each of a set of sample points spaced across the image patch. The transform vectors are weighted and spatially accumulated to produce a prescribed number of linearly summed vectors. The linearly summed vectors are concatenated to form a raw local image descriptor, which is normalized to produce a finalized descriptor for the image patch.

  • Patent number: 7430765
Abstract: The invention generally relates to articles which may be used as headwear for infants that address issues related to flat head syndrome. In a first aspect, an article of headwear for an infant is provided. The headwear is configured to reduce pressure at the rear portion of the head when the infant is lying or reclining in the supine position. The headwear generally includes a head receiving portion having at least a top region and rear region for covering at least the top and rear portions of the head of the infant. In accordance with the invention, the headwear also includes support cushion positioned in the rear region of the head receiving portion. The support cushion is configured to support at least the rear portion of the head of the infant and to at least partially surround a pressure relief region.

  • Publication number: 20080205053
Abstract: A system provides white light having a selectable spectral characteristic (e.g. a selectable color temperature) using an optical integrating cavity to combine energy of different wavelengths from different sources with white light. The cavity has a diffusely reflective interior surface and an aperture for allowing emission of combined light. Control of the intensity of emission of the sources sets the amount of primary color light of each wavelength added to the substantially white input light output and thus determines a spectral characteristic of the white light output through the aperture. A variety of different elements may optically process the combined light output, such a deflector, a variable iris, a lens, a variable focusing lens system, a collimator, a holographic diffuser and combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 7382897
Abstract: A system and process for identifying corresponding points among multiple images of a scene is presented. This involves a multi-view matching framework based on a new class of invariant features. Features are located at Harris corners in scale-space and oriented using a blurred local gradient. This defines a similarity invariant frame in which to sample a feature descriptor. The descriptor actually formed is a bias/gain normalized patch of intensity values. Matching is achieved using a fast nearest neighbor procedure that uses indexing on low frequency Haar wavelet coefficients. A simple 6 parameter model for patch matching is employed, and the noise statistics are analyzed for correct and incorrect matches. This leads to a simple match verification procedure based on a per feature outlier distance.

  • Patent number: 7374311
Abstract: A system provides light of selectable spectral characteristic (e.g. a selectable color combination of light), for luminous applications such as signage and indicator lights. An optical integrating cavity combines energy of different wavelengths from different sources, typically different-color LEDs. The cavity has a diffusely reflective interior surface and an aperture for allowing emission of combined light. Control of the intensity of emission of the sources sets the amount of each wavelength of light in the combined output and thus determines a spectral characteristic of the light output through the aperture. A deflector shaped like a number, character, letter, or other symbol, may be coupled to a similarly shaped aperture. By combining several such fixtures, it is possible to spell out words and phrases, with selectable color lighting. Disclosed fixture examples use an extruded body member with appropriately located reflective surfaces, to form both the cavity and deflector.
