  • Patent number: 9366161
Abstract: A hydraulic valve for use with a lockable cam phaser. The hydraulic valve is configured to limit the flow of pressure medium to both the advance and retard chambers, while allowing a locking pin of the cam phaser to drain. The hydraulic valve effectively limits flow during the self-centering operation of the can phaser. This is important for the system function, since it allows the phaser to select a side (i.e., the advance or retard chamber) to bleed off, reducing pressure on that side, which allows the cam phaser to move towards the mid-park (i.e., locking) position.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 14, 2016
    Assignee: Hilite Germany GMBH
Inventors: James Anthony Morehead, Matthew Bradfield, Daniel Stanhope
  • Patent number: 9341090
Abstract: An oscillating-motor camshaft adjuster which provides that, through software, camshaft alternating torque is utilized only in conditions where the torque is adequate and/or it is important to reduce flow consumption. If there is two step lift and the camshaft alternating torque is not adequate in low lift, software can position the spool to utilize some camshaft alternating torque while also tanking oil to speed up the phasing.
