  • Patent number: 11461014
Abstract: Techniques to back up data are disclosed. In various embodiments, a function pointer associated with a system call by an application is modified to point to a custom write function. A request to write application data is received at the custom write function. The application data is written to a backup destination based at least in part on a determination that the request is associated with invocation of a backup method of the application.

  • Patent number: 10146629
Abstract: A backup and recovery architecture for applications compatible with the Microsoft Windows Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) includes a backup client module that includes an orchestration engine, an application manager, a common requestor, and a save transports component. The client module interacts with the VSS on the client in the generation of a shadow copy. Data is backed up from the shadow copy to a backup storage server. In various specific embodiments, the application manager includes functions that are application-specific and the orchestration engine includes functions that are not application-specific. A single consolidated log may be generated by the backup client module for a backup or recover operation.

  • Patent number: 9672222
Abstract: A write instruction which affects original data is received via a virtual file system; the original data is read-only on a remote device. The original data is received from the remote device and the write instruction is applied to the original data in order to obtain changed data. The changed data is stored in a buffer in the virtual file system. The changed data is copied from the buffer to a differencing file, where deletion of the changed data from the buffer is independent of completion of copying from the buffer to the differencing file.

  • Patent number: 8843450
Abstract: A method for restoring associated with a collaborative software application is disclosed. A virtual file system exposing backup data of a collaborative software application stored in a backup data storage is created. A selection of a portion of the backup data to be restored to the collaborative software application is received via an interface associated with the virtual file system. The selected portion of the backup data is caused to be granularly restored to the collaborative management system without restoring one or more unselected portions of the backup data. A write capability of the virtual file system is used to modify a portion of the restored data in response to a write operation by the collaborative software application.

  • Patent number: 8832030
Abstract: A method for restoring a content management system is disclosed. A virtual file system exposing backup data of a content management system stored in a backup data storage is created. The backup data is exposed without retrieving the backup data from the backup data storage. A selection of a portion of the backup data to be restored to the content management system is received via an interface associated with the virtual file system. The selected portion of the backup data is caused to be granularly restored to the content management system without restoring one or more unselected portions of the backup data.
