  • Patent number: 11963691
Abstract: A surgical instrument, has an end effector that includes an ultrasonic blade, and a clamp arm that moves relative to the ultrasonic blade from an opened position toward an intermediate position and a closed position. The clamp arm is offset from the ultrasonic blade to define a predetermined gap in the intermediate position between the opened position and the closed position. A clamp arm actuator connects to the clamp arm and moves from an opened configuration to a closed configuration to direct the clamp arm from the opened position toward the intermediate position and the closed position. A spacer connects with the clamp arm to inhibit movement of the clamp arm from the intermediate position toward the closed position for maintaining the predetermined gap between the clamp arm and the ultrasonic blade.

  • Publication number: 20240071593
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that provide smart alerts to users, e.g., alerts to users about diabetic states that are only provided when it makes sense to do so, e.g., when the system can predict or estimate that the user is not already cognitively aware of their current condition, e.g., particularly where the current condition is a diabetic state warranting attention. In this way, the alert or alarm is personalized and made particularly effective for that user. Such systems and methods still alert the user when action is necessary, e.g., a bolus or temporary basal rate change, or provide a response to a missed bolus or a need for correction, but do not alert when action is unnecessary, e.g., if the user is already estimated or predicted to be cognitively aware of the diabetic state warranting attention, or if corrective action was already taken.

  • Patent number: 10496271
Abstract: A user interface for an electronic device incorporating a touch sensitive display forms a touch input zone on a portion of the display. The touch input zone is split into two sections separated by an origin axis. The origin axis may be fixed or may be determined by an initial touch by a user in the touch zone. The device detects a touch by the user in the touch zone and changes a controllable variable or a pointer to an item within a scrollable list of data elements based on the location of the detected touch relative to the origin axis, where the rate of change is determined by the distance from the touch location to the origin axis and the direction of change is determined by the section in which the touch is detected.

  • Patent number: 9275761
Abstract: An integral pressurized water reactor that combines all of the components typically associated with a nuclear steam supply system, such as the steam generator, reactor coolant pumps, pressurizer and the reactor, into a single reactor pressure vessel. The reactor pressure vessel is itself enclosed in a containment pressure vessel that also houses a number of safety systems, such as the core make-up tanks, the primary side of residual heat removal heat exchangers, an automatic depressurization system and a recirculation system that enables continuous core cooling through natural circulation over an extended period of time. Actuation of the passive systems is done by single actuation of valves, powered from redundant batteries.

  • Publication number: 20160012535
Abstract: A system for deriving and managing RIA knowledge employs a data collection server and data processing system. The data collection server is configured to communicate with at least one data source to collect publically-available information pertaining to RIAs and stores such information in a first database. The data processing system processes the publically-available information stored in the first database to derive artifacts representing the publically-available information as well as additional artifacts that represent useful information beyond the publically-available information, and stores the artifacts and additional artifacts in a second database for output and/or analysis by users. The artifacts and additional artifacts that pertain to a particular RIA can be derived from both structured and unstructured data reported by the particular RIA to a regulatory authority.

  • Patent number: 9131255
Abstract: A request is received from a subscriber of a video content network offering a switched digital video service, to establish a new switched digital video session within a service group of the video content network, which group includes both preferred and standard subscribers and has a plurality of existing sessions. It is determined whether adequate bandwidth is available to establish the new switched digital video session without tearing down any of the existing sessions. Responsive to the determination indicating that adequate bandwidth is not available without tearing down any of the existing sessions, at least one of the existing sessions is torn down. In this step, those of the existing sessions corresponding to the preferred subscribers are exempted from teardown. The new switched digital video session is established in accordance with the request. A switched digital video control apparatus, a set-top terminal, and a system are also disclosed.
