  • Patent number: 11834955
Abstract: A variable turbine geometry assembly for controlling flow of exhaust gas to a turbine wheel of a turbocharger includes an adjustment ring extending about an axis and rotatable about the axis, at least one vane lever coupled to the adjustment ring, and at least one vane coupled to the at least one vane lever. The at least one vane is moveable with respect to the adjustment ring when the adjustment ring rotates about the axis. The variable turbine geometry assembly further includes a wave spring operably in contact with at least one of the at least one vane lever and the adjustment ring. The wave spring is configured to bias one of the at least one vane lever and the adjustment ring toward the other of the at least one vane lever and the adjustment ring.

  • Patent number: 11624283
Abstract: High cycle fatigue (HCF) in a turbine wheel of a sector-divided dual volute turbocharger, particularly a turbocharger where the tongue-to-blade gap is as small as from 1-3% of the wheel diameter, is reduced, and energy extraction is optimized, using a turbine wheel with (blade stiffness/backwall stiffness×100) between 41 and 44.

  • Patent number: 10711690
Abstract: A wastegate assembly for a turbocharger includes a valve element having a valve body and a shaft extending away from the valve body. A spindle is coupled to the shaft for moving the valve element between a first and a second position to control the flow of exhaust gas to a turbine housing interior of the turbocharger. A washer is coupled to the shaft such that the spindle is disposed between the valve body and the washer for retaining the spindle to the shaft. A biasing member is disposed between the spindle and the washer, has a trough portion extending toward the spindle, and has a crest portion extending toward the washer. At least one of the spindle and the washer define a seating groove and the biasing member extends at least partially into the seating groove to seat and prevent rotation of the biasing member.

  • Publication number: 20180334953
Abstract: A turbocharger assembly using exhaust gas flow to drive a turbine wheel in a turbine housing and having a wastegate valve assembly to control exhaust gas flow bypassing the turbine wheel. The turbocharger assembly includes a linear actuator operable to close the wastegate valve assembly and a flexible cable connecting the linear actuator to a lever of the wastegate valve assembly. The flexible cable is held in tension by interaction between the linear actuator and the wastegate valve assembly.
