  • Publication number: 20180290478
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a security sheet (11) for an identity document (10). The security sheet (11) comprises a plastic substrate (14) formed from a plurality of plastic layers (34). The plastic substrate (14) comprises a plurality of windows (60) and each window (60) has a maximum width in the range of from approximately 0.5 mm to approximately 10 mm. The present invention is further directed to an identification document (10) comprising the security sheet (11), a plurality of such identity documents (10) and a method of manufacturing the security sheet (11).

  • Publication number: 20180037046
Abstract: A booklet includes a book block having at least two sheets stitched together. When the sheets are folded along a line parallel with stitching so each sheet defines a leaf on each side of fold line, the sheets form an innermost and outermost sheet. The stitching's obverse side is exposed on the innermost sheet's inner surface and stitching's reverse side is exposed on the outermost sheet's outer surface. A cover member has inner and outer surfaces, the inner surface defining first and second cover pages one on each side of cover fold line. The block is attached to cover member by attaching a block's leaf to first cover page defining a first end page, the block's leaf defining the first end page being selected so the block can be opened in two different configurations to reveal respectively the stitching's obverse and reverse sides without detaching the block from cover member.

  • Publication number: 20170136801
Abstract: A security booklet has a cover foldable about an axis; a set of page sheets stitched together along the axis about which they can be folded to define a set of pages, wherein each page sheet is formed of a single fibrous sheet; wherein one part of one of the page sheets laterally offset from the axis is adhered to the cover, while another part of the one page sheet can be folded separately from the cover and the other pages about the axis.

  • Patent number: 9021953
Abstract: A security device comprises two or more regions (1, 2). Each region (1, 2) contains a material or combination of materials wherein the two or more regions exhibit substantially the same visible appearance under first viewing conditions and different visible appearances under second viewing conditions, the second viewing conditions. The second viewing conditions comprise a combination of a) visible light and b) substantially any UV wavelength.

  • Publication number: 20130207376
Abstract: A security element for a security booklet includes a plurality of pages including a first outermost page and a second outermost page. The security element includes at least one line of stitching joining the plurality of pages to one another. The stitching is formed of at least a first thread and a second thread, the first thread disposed on an outer surface of the first page, and the second thread disposed on an outer surface of the second page. The first and second threads interlock at each of a series of spaced apertures through the plurality of pages along the line of stitching. At one or more selected aperture(s), a loop of the second thread extends to the outer surface of the first page. The first thread has an optical characteristic different from the second thread, so the second thread at the selected aperture(s) is distinguishable from the first thread.

  • Publication number: 20130099473
Abstract: A method is disclosed for manufacturing a security feature on a security article. The security article includes a first layer of plastics material, and the method includes, in any order: using a laser to irradiate a first region of the security article, the laser being operated at a low power level and low speed; and using a laser to irradiate a second region of the security article, the second region at least partially overlapping the first, the laser being operated at a higher power level and higher speed. In this way, the overlapping portions of the regions are marked and exhibit an optically variable appearance. Also disclosed is a security article including a first layer of plastics material exhibiting a laser marking of which at least a portion has an optically variable appearance.
