  • Patent number: 12297748
Abstract: A control system for a turbine engine assembly includes a controller operable to control operation of the turbine engine assembly and to determine a trim configuration to balance a rotating engine structure associated with the turbine engine assembly. The controller is programmed to determine the trim configuration based on information indicative of an out of balance condition of the rotating engine structure and an assigning a quality score based on a determined veracity of the information.

Date of Patent: May 13, 2025
Assignee: PRATT & WHITNEY CANADA CORP.
Inventors: Matthew Chiasson, Golnaz Shaverdi, Jason Tremblay, Guy Riverin, Faran Hafeez, Bruce Calvert

  • Patent number: 10850863
Abstract: At least a selected one of a first and second engine are connected to a drive train for driving an aircraft accessory. A gearbox is connected to a primer mover propulsor and an actuator operatively associated with the selected engine is moveable between a position in which the selected engine drivingly engages the gearbox for driving the propulsor and a position in which the selected engine disengages from the gearbox. A position signal, a status signal, and a request signal respectively indicative of a present position of the actuator, a governing state and present speed of each engine, and a request for movement of the actuator from the present position to the other position are received. If the selected engine's speed differs from a predetermined threshold, a control signal is output for causing the engine's speed to be adjusted towards the threshold. A control signal indicating that movement of the actuator is permitted is then output.

  • Patent number: 10781754
Abstract: A system and method for rotor bow mitigation for a gas turbine engine are provided. An elapsed time since a shutdown of the engine and an idle operation time of the engine prior to the shutdown are determined. A rotor bow mitigation period is determined based on the elapsed time and the idle operation time and, prior to initiating a start sequence of the engine, the engine is motored for a duration of the rotor bow mitigation period.

  • Publication number: 20190301300
Abstract: Herein provided are methods and systems for monitoring vibration in an engine. A vibration signal from at least one sensor coupled to the engine and a speed signal representative of an operating speed of the engine are received at a computing device. A target frequency of the engine is determined, at the computing device, based on the speed signal. A center frequency of a filtering system is altered, via the computing device, so that a pass-band of the filtering system contains the target frequency. The vibration signal is filtered with the filtering system to obtain a filtered vibration signal. A vibration amplitude for the engine is determined, at the computing device, based on the filtered vibration signal.
