  • Publication number: 20170004444
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer program products for tracking baggage. An electronic tag (e-tag) may be attached to or integrated with a bag, and may include a globally unique identifier (GUID). A user may access a database to link the GUID with the bag, a passenger, and an itinerary by associating selected records in the database containing data relating to the GUID, bag, passenger and itinerary. Agents for the carrier may access the data in the records by transmitting queries to the database that include the GUID. The GUID may be retrieved by reading the e-tag with a user device, such as a smart phone or dedicated scanning device. The GUID may also be used to generate lost-bag and found-bag records in the database, and for matching these records to find lost bags. The database may also contain images of the bag that is associated with the GUID.
