Patent number: 11944770Abstract: An expandable introducer sheath with an interlock dilator. The present technology provides an expandable sheath with a step feature inside its distal opening, and a dilator with an interlock that includes a catch surface configured to engage with the step feature and resist further relative movement so that the body of the dilator is prevented from exiting the distal end of the expandable sheath. This interlocking engagement may allow the dilator to be used to extend and maintain tension on the expandable sheath during insertion into a patient, and then to be retracted from the expandable sheath by pulling the dilator in the opposite direction. The present technology also provides a dilator hub with a spring mechanism configured to achieve and maintain a desired tension on the expandable sheath and to prevent overextension of the expandable sheath when the dilator is being inserted into the expandable sheath.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2023Date of Patent: April 2, 2024Assignee: Abiomed, Inc.Inventors: Christopher N. Korkuch, Robert Fishman, Michael Thomas Finnegan, Charles DeLorenzo, Andrew Gentile, Anne Gabrielle McLoughlin, Robert Swierczek, Matthew D'Agostino, Jonathan Barry

Publication number: 20230363932Abstract: A device and method are provided for minimizing and/or preventing limb ischemia, such as when a medical device inserted into a patient's vasculature occludes the vessel. The device may include a tubular member and a first anchor configured to hold a position of the tubular member relative to a vessel. The first anchor is configured to appose an internal wall of the vessel. A second anchor may cooperate with the first anchor to hold the position of the tubular member relative to the vessel.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2023Publication date: November 16, 2023Applicant: ABIOMED, Inc.Inventors: Christopher Korkuch, Glen Fantuzzi, Charles DeLorenzo, Emilia Jahangir, Matthew D'Agostino, Robert Swierczek, Alex McCall

Publication number: 20230137633Abstract: Expandable introducer sheaths and associated laser cut frames for the insertion of a medical device into a blood vessel. In some examples, an expandable sheath may have a frame including a plurality of radial expansion bands and a plurality of connecting bridges for connecting adjacent radial expansion bands. The radial expansion bands are configured to accommodate radial expansion and the plurality of connecting bridges are configured to be longitudinally expandable and to impart column strength as a medical device (e.g., an intracardiac heart pump) is passed through the sheath, such as during insertion or removal of the medical device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2022Publication date: May 4, 2023Applicant: ABIOMED, Inc.Inventors: Christopher Nason Korkuch, Jonathan Barry, Anne Gabrielle McLoughlin, Robert Kirkpatrick, Ying Xu, Glen R. Publication number: 20230134876Abstract: A system for insertion into a vasculature of a patient is disclosed. The system utilizes a primary tubular sheath body coupled to a distal portion of an intermediate tubular sheath body, and a hub coupled to a proximal portion of the intermediate tubular sheath. The hub may be couplable to a dilator via an interaction between a dilator cap and the hub, and the hub may contain a hemostatic valve with a foam member having one or more visibly identifiably regions.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2022Publication date: May 4, 2023Applicant: ABIOMED, Inc.Inventors: Charles DeLorenzo, Christopher Korkuch, Glen Fantuzzi, Brian Chouinard, Megan Boyd, Mithun Rajaram, Matthew D'Agostino

Publication number: 20210085923Abstract: There is provided an introducer system for percutaneously delivering a first and a second medical device to a patient. The system may comprise an introducer sheath having a longitudinal axis and a lumen formed therein. The system may also comprise a bifurcated hub coupled to a proximal end of the sheath. The hub may comprise a first arm having a first lumen and a first hemostasis valve for the passage of the first medical device. The hub may also comprise a second arm coupled to the first arm and having a second lumen and a second hemostasis valve for the passage of the second medical device. Further, the hub may comprise a connection port such that the first lumen and the second lumen are in communication with the lumen of the introducer sheath for the passage of at least one of the first and second medical devices through the introducer sheath for delivery to the patient.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 17, 2020Publication date: March 25, 2021Inventors: Glen R. Fantuzzi, John Modlish, Matthew d'Agostino
