Patent number: 11514076Abstract: A first datastore discovers a configuration item (CI), without a persistent unique identifier in a distributed datastores environment. When the first datastore has authoritative naming rights, it determines an authoritative identification for the CI. When the first datastore has advisory naming rights, it suggests a name for the CI to a second datastore having authoritative naming rights. The second datastore determines that a pre-existing identification for the CI in the second datastore is the authoritative identification for the CI. If there is no pre-existing identification for the CI in the second data store, the second data store accepts the suggested name as the authoritative identification for the CI. When the first datastore has no naming rights for the CI, it sends the CI to a third data store having authoritative naming rights for the CI to get an authoritative identification for the CI.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2020Date of Patent: November 29, 2022Assignee: BMC Software, Inc.Inventors: Govindarajan Rangarajan, Ajoy Kumar, Narayan Kumar, Douglas Mueller, Matthew D. Connors, Darius Wallace

Patent number: 10740352Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems to provide coordinated identification of data items across a plurality of distributed data storage repositories (datastores). In one disclosed embodiment, a single configuration management database (CMDB) controls identification rights for all CIs as they are first identified in a master/slave relationship with all other CMDBs in the distributed environment. In a second embodiment, a plurality of CMDBs divide identification rights based upon coordination identification rules where certain CMDBs are assigned authoritative identification rights for CIs matching the rules of a particular CMDB in the distributed environment. In a third embodiment, one or more of the plurality of CMDBs may also have advisory identification rights for CIs which do not already have an identifiable unique identity and can coordinate with an authoritative CMDB to establish an identity for CIs.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2018Date of Patent: August 11, 2020Assignee: BMC Software, Inc.Inventors: Govindarajan Rangarajan, Ajoy Kumar, Narayan Kumar, Douglas Mueller, Matthew D. Patent number: 9841962Abstract: Methods and apparatus for implementing hybrid-cloud computing networks are disclosed. An example computer-implemented method includes receiving, at a computing device, a request to provision a user application. The method further includes identifying an application blueprint corresponding with the request and identifying at least one computing resource corresponding with the request. The method still further includes identifying a network blueprint that includes the at least one computing resource, provisioning a computing network in accordance with the identified network blueprint and provisioning the at least one computing resource in the provisioned computing network. The method also includes, installing the user application in the provisioned at least one computing resource in accordance with the application blueprint.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2015Date of Patent: December 12, 2017Assignee: BladeLogic, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan Newcomb Swirsky Whitney, Alexander Vul, Matthew D. Connors, Johan Eriksson, Atanu Neogi

Patent number: 8782601Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes executing instructions stored on a computer-readable medium. The computer-implemented method includes receiving, at a server hosting a strongly-typed object-oriented application programming interface (API), a single API call to request data from the strongly-typed object-oriented API, where the single API call includes a tuple having multiple object types, obtaining the requested data and returning the requested data.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2011Date of Patent: July 15, 2014Assignee: BMC Software, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan Whitney, Matthew D. Patent number: 5664112Abstract: Apparatus that provides an integrated approach for all management activities for hazardous substances used or generated at a facility, including form generation and compliance with the reporting requirements. The apparatus includes six functional groupings and a database schema or coordinator that integrates these groupings and allows them to share and exchange relevant information. The functional groupings include a hazardous materials index grouping (chemical profiles, waste profiles, Material Safety Data Sheets, etc.), a hazardous materials management grouping (MSDS generation, process definition, materials transfers, etc.), a human resource management grouping (training, exposure limits, etc.) and a hazardous commitment management grouping (compliance requirements and deadlines). Optionally, a hazardous waste management grouping (waste accumulations, Hazardous Waste Manifests, etc.) or a hazardous permit management grouping (permit approvals and renewals, etc.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1992Date of Patent: September 2, 1997Assignee: Alternative Systems, Inc.Inventors: Douglas H.
