  • Publication number: 20030081074
Abstract: A printhead including a printhead substrate having at least one opening formed in a first surface to provide a fluid path through the substrate. The printhead further includes a thin film membrane formed on a second surface of the substrate. The thin film membrane includes a plurality of fluid ejection elements and has a floating section and a cantilevered section, which are detached and separated from one another by a gap.

  • Publication number: 20030081071
Abstract: An inkjet printhead includes a substrate having an ink feed slot formed therein. The inkjet printhead includes drop generators and ink feed channels. Each drop generator has a nozzle and a vaporization chamber. At least one ink feed channel is fluidically coupled to each vaporization chamber and is fluidically coupled to the ink feed slot. A thin-film structure is supported by the substrate and defines a first portion of each ink feed channel. An orifice layer supported by the substrate defines the nozzles and the vaporization chambers in the drop generators. The orifice layer defines a second portion of each ink feed channel.

  • Patent number: 6543879
Abstract: An inkjet printhead assembly includes a substrate having an ink feed slot formed therein including a first side and second side along a vertical length of the ink feed slot. A first column of drop generators is formed along the first side of the ink feed slot. A second column of drop generators is formed along the second side of the ink feed slot. Each drop generator includes a nozzle. A nozzle packing density for nozzles in the first and second columns of drop generators including the area of the ink feed slot is at least approximately 100 nozzles per square millimeter (mm2).

  • Publication number: 20030001913
Abstract: A fluid ejecting printhead including a substrate having a surface, and a columnar group of drop generators formed on the surface that are arranged into subgroups, each subgroup being fluidically isolated from other subgroups on the surface. Firing pulses are provided to the drop generators such that no two drop generators in the same subgroup are activated in sequence.

  • Publication number: 20030001910
Abstract: An image reproduction system with requisite technology to reduce or eliminate altogether banding effects is provided. The system includes an input tray for storing print media, an output area for holding printed media and an inkjet pen or printhead for printing information on the print media. In a preferred embodiment, the reproduction system is inkjet printer whose pen scans and ejects ink on the print media with a non-uniform dot pitch. This non-uniformity is achieved by adding visual noise in a known and predictable fashion to the uniform dot pitch.

  • Publication number: 20020149635
Abstract: A method for incremental printing with an inkjet swath printer by ejecting drops of an ink from a printhead while scanning the printhead over a print medium, including determining a first edge and a second edge of each pixel in each row with respect to a first scanning direction. Moving the printhead in the first scanning direction while ejecting the drops of ink on the first edge of the pixels at a first firing frequency and on the second edge of the pixels at a second firing frequency and moving the printhead in a second direction opposite to the first scanning direction while ejecting the drops of ink on the second edge of the pixels at the first firing frequency and on the first edge of the pixels at the second firing frequency.

  • Patent number: 6290331
Abstract: A novel polymeric orifice plate for a printhead. The plate includes a recess in the top surface thereof which terminates at a position between the top and bottom plate surfaces. The recess communicates with a bore which passes through the remainder of the plate and terminates at the bottom surface. The recess has an upper end with a first opening therein, a lower end with a second opening therein, a side wall, and a bottom wall at the lower end The first opening is larger than the second opening. Application of physical force to the plate does not disturb the second opening in the recess which is “inset”. The recessed bottom wall (and possibly the top surface) of the plate may include at least one layer of coating material thereon for protective, wettability-control, and other purposes. These designs insure proper ink drop trajectory and high-quality image generation.

  • Patent number: 6247787
Abstract: Described is a method for incremental printing with an inkjet swath printer by depositing multiple drops of an ink from a printhead in each column of an image, in each scanning pass of the printhead over a print medium by obtaining the image, analyzing the image to determine which drops of ink will define leading and trailing edges in each row of the image element with respect to a scanning direction, removing at least one drop of ink preceding the drop defining the trailing edges in each of the rows, removing at least one drop of ink after the drop defining the leading edges in each of the rows and depositing the remaining drops of the ink on the medium while passing the printhead over the media in the scanning direction.
