    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of detecting nucleic acid in a sample comprising a flocculant and a recombinant protein, the method comprising (a) adding heparin and a detergent to the sample, (b) amplifying at least a portion of the nucleic acid, and (c) detecting the amplification in step (b), thereby detecting the nucleic acid in the sample. The present invention also relates to a method of detecting nucleic acid in a sample comprising a flocculant and a recombinant protein, the method comprising (a) adding a detergent and sodium hydroxide to the sample, (b) amplifying at least a portion of the nucleic acid, and (c) detecting the amplification in step (b), thereby detecting the nucleic acid in the sample.
