  • Patent number: 9939008
Abstract: A remote snowmobile throttle control device is provided for use with a snowmobile having a handle bar with a hand grip at one end with a manually operable throttle trigger adjacent the hand grip. The device comprises a Bowden cable with a manually operable trigger at one end and a coupling elastic band for mounting on the handle bar at the hand grip and a manually operable spring clamp with jaws for attachment to the throttle trigger. A tether holds the actuator to the user and the mounting on the handlebar is arranged to break away from the throttle trigger in the event that the cable is pulled excessively should the snowmobile move too far relative to the user.

  • Patent number: 9649869
Abstract: A helical coil is inserted into holes at an edge of a book by a machine which is adjustable for different diameters of coil. The face of the book sits on a platen and the coil is driven by a roller while the edge of the book is supported on a plurality of spine formers having an arced surface for shaping the edge of the book and an end of the book is engaged by a side lay member at an angle to incline the holes at the angle to receive the turns of the coil. The flat spine formers are carried on supports which rotate so as to allow the turns of the coil at the pitch angle to pass the spine formers. For different book thickness and coil diameter, the arced shape of the spine formers, the spine former angle and the lay angle are changed manually.

  • Patent number: 8287205
Abstract: A helical plastic coil is used for binding a collated book having a stack of pages with aligned holes along one edge of the book where a leading end of the filament is fed into a first hole at a first end of the book and the coil is rotated about its axis such that the leading end is threaded through the holes by entering each of the holes until the coil is threaded through all of the holes. The leading end of the coil is sheared by an anvil and blade so as to define a leading apex and a leading surface inclined rearwardly from the leading apex along the filament and across the filament. The leading apex is arranged such that, as the leading end enters each of the holes in turn, the leading apex is located on the leading end of the filament at a position thereon facing away from the trailing end of the coil and spaced from the end of the hole facing the first end of the book.

  • Patent number: 7828503
Abstract: A machine for cutting and crimping the ends of a helical coil inserted into holes at an edge of a book to hold the coil in place is adjustable to accommodate different diameters of coil. A guide member for centering the axis of the coil in a centering direction is adjustable to accommodate different diameter coils and for adjusting the location of the axis in an adjustment direction at right angles to the centering direction depending upon the diameter of the coil. A cutting device has a blade movable in a slot of an anvil to shear on one side and to bend on the other side to form a crimped end portion. The adjustment of the axis causes the cutting device to cut the end portion longer for larger coils. The cutting device is adjustable to rotate the anvil relative to the axis to accommodate different helix angles.

  • Publication number: 20100150682
Abstract: Apparatus for binding a book with a helical plastic coil includes a forming mandrel for forming helical coils from a heated elongate plastics material with the coils being cooled on the mandrel and cut to length before being discharged onto an accumulator tray. The coils are individually transported at high speed from a discharge edge of the tray to the insertion device where the coils are inserted into aligned holes at an edge of respective collated books for binding the books. The coils on the tray are heated by a contact heater on the surface of the tray and/or by air blown over the tray to be kept at a temperature above 25 degrees C. to improve crimping of the ends after cutting of the coil to length in the book.

  • Patent number: 6382950
Abstract: A machine for forming helical coil comprises an elongate cylindrical mandrel which is rotatable about its longitudinal axis, a stationary helical guide coil wrapped around the mandrel and defining a helical guide path around the mandrel between turns of the guide coil into which path the material is guided. At least two drive rollers parallel to the axis of the mandrel which are rotatable each about a respective longitudinal axis. A drive coupling member at one end of the mandrel for receiving a drive from a rotatable drive member. A mounting boss for supporting the mandrel so as to allow rotation of the mandrel while holding the mandrel against longitudinal movement, a coil support plate having one edge attached to the turns of the helical guide coil so as to support the helical guide coil along its length with the plate extending outwardly of the axis of the mandrel.
