  • Publication number: 20240144272
Abstract: A cryptocurrency management device (CMD) may be used to perform various cryptocurrency management functions, such as storage of cryptocurrency, user authentication, and initiation or processing of a transaction for transferring cryptocurrency. To conserve the power resources of the CMD, components of the CMD may be transitioned to a sleep state for extended periods of time. Such components may be automatically activated by a user touching the CMD or bringing a wireless communication device within range of the CMD. The circuitry of the CMD that triggers the activation are capable of continuously monitoring for such inputs over extended periods of time without consuming significant amounts of power, thereby conserving the power resources of the CMD.

  • Patent number: 11899515
Abstract: A point-of-sale (POS) device includes a processor, a battery, a transaction object reader, a printer with a printer controller, and optionally a temperature sensor. The processor determines a present power discharge capability rate of the battery, optionally based on a temperature measured by the temperature sensor. The processor also calculates a first estimated power draw rate based on a first setting value for at least one of the components of the POS device, such as the printer. If the first estimated power draw rate is dangerously close to the present power discharge capability rate of the battery, a second estimated power draw rate is calculated based on a second setting value for the one or more components. If the second estimated power draw rate is no longer dangerously close to the present power discharge capability rate of the battery, the components are set to the second settings value.

  • Publication number: 20230401556
Abstract: A wearable device, such as a finger ring worn by a user, communicates information about a user to a reader that uses the information in order to perform a transaction. Such wearable device may be conveniently carried by and accessible to the user such that utilization of the device for the transaction is less burdensome for the user, thereby encouraging use of the device for particular transactions. Indeed, in some cases, such as when the device is implemented as a finger ring or other type of jewelry, the user may be encouraged to carry the device in an exposed manner such that it is readily available for the transaction without the user having to search in a wallet, pocket, or purse for the device.

  • Patent number: 11783312
Abstract: A system for performing payment transactions includes a wearable payment device, such as a finger ring worn by a user, that communicates payment data to a payment reader that uses the payment data in order to request a payment transaction. The system also includes a mobile communication device that receives an input associated with the payment transaction from the user and wirelessly transmits information to the wearable payment device based on the input. The wearable payment device can use the information from the mobile communication device for performing the payment transaction and transmit at least a portion of the information from the mobile communication device to the payment reader during the payment transaction.

  • Patent number: 11763285
Abstract: A wearable payment device, such as a finger ring worn by a user, communicates payment data via an antenna to a payment reader that uses the payment data in order to request a payment transaction. The wearable payment device can tune the antenna to enhance performance of the antenna. The wearable payment device can measure a characteristic of the antenna and perform an assessment of the performance of the antenna based on the measured characteristic. The antenna can be tuned, such as by changing the impedance of the antenna, based on the assessed performance of the antenna.

  • Patent number: 11410154
Abstract: In some examples, methods and systems may process one or more payment transactions between a merchant and a customer by obtaining at least one payment proxy having a syntax including a monetary currency indicator preceding an alphanumeric character. The payment proxy may be transmitted by a transmitter component of a payment beacon device. The method includes generating, through an application accessed through the customer device, a message by identifying the payment proxy in a message and a money transfer amount in the message; parsing the payment proxy to identify the merchant associated with the payment proxy in the message; identifying a merchant financial account associated with the identified merchant, based on a stored association between the merchant financial account and the identified merchant; and initiating, by the payment processing system, a transfer of funds indicative of the money transfer amount from a financial account of the customer to a financial account of the merchant.

  • Patent number: 10740740
Abstract: A first device and a second device enter a USB monitoring mode. The second device transmits monitoring messages on a periodic basis, while the first device has a monitoring timer that it resets each time a monitoring message is received. If a monitoring message is not received before the monitoring timer expires, the first device starts a reconnect timer. After a certain number of failed attempts to receive monitoring messages, the first device takes corrective action to restore USB communications.
