  • Patent number: 12559240
Abstract: A system for controlling ice accumulation on a surface of an aircraft, the system includes a carbon nano-tube (CNT) heater comprising: a CNT layer; a first encapsulation layer disposed on a first side of the CNT layer formed of a first encapsulation layer thermoplastic material; and a second encapsulation layer disposed on a second side of the CNT layer formed of a second encapsulation layer thermoplastic material. The system also includes a fore composite structure that includes a fore composite structure thermoplastic material disposed on the first side of CNT heater, an aft composite structure that includes an aft composite structure thermoplastic material disposed on the first side of CNT heater and a sensor layer disposed between the CNT heater and the one of the fore and aft composite structures.

  • Publication number: 20250263171
Abstract: An integrated ice detector and ice protection system is provided. The integrated ice detector and ice protection system includes an electric resistance heater element layer, a sensing element, and at least one second electrically insulative layer positioned between the electric resistance heater element layer and the at least one first electrically insulative layer with the sensing element. The sensing element is disposed in at least one first electrically insulative layer and wherein the sensing element is positioned outward from the electric resistance heater element layer.

  • Patent number: 12298205
Abstract: A system is provided for dispersing supercooled liquid water in an icing wind tunnel. The system includes a spray bar; a spray nozzle coupled to the spray bar; a pressure control valve coupled to the spray bar; and a controller coupled to the pressure control valve and the spray nozzle. The controller is configured to receive input identifying a selected liquid water content and a selected water droplet size for dispersing the supercooled liquid water in the icing wind tunnel; configure an injector duty cycle of the spray nozzle to generate the selected liquid water content; and configure the pressure control valve to generate the selected water droplet size, wherein configuring the spray nozzle and the pressure control valve disperses the supercooled liquid water in the icing wind tunnel.

  • Publication number: 20230202661
Abstract: A multilayer heating structure for controlling ice accumulation on a surface of an aircraft includes a carbon nano-tube (CNT) heater. The heater includes: a CNT layer; a first encapsulation layer disposed on a first side of the CNT layer formed of a first encapsulation layer thermoplastic material; and a second encapsulation layer disposed on a second side of the CNT layer formed of a second encapsulation layer thermoplastic material. The structure further includes for and aft composite structures. The first and second encapsulation layer thermoplastic materials have higher melting temperatures that one or both the fore composite structure thermoplastic material and the aft composite structure thermoplastic material.
