The executed instructions cause the intermediary processing device, while the intermediary processing device is operating in a default state to process data for the artificial-reality headset and in accordance with a determination that an operational condition at the artificial-reality headset satisfies thermal-throttling criteria, to operate the intermediary processing device in a throttled state. The throttled state is distinct from the default state. The throttled state causes the intermediary processing device to reduce at least one performance characteristic associated with the default state.
