  • Patent number: 6576078
Abstract: A process for flashless hot melt bonding of seamed flexible belts having a substrate and a seam having interlocking seam members, wherein the interlocking seam members are held together by an adhesive for use in electrostatographic, contact electrostatic, digital and other like machines, wherein the process includes: a) providing a release layer having an adhesive strip on a front side of the release layer, wherein the release layer is wider than the adhesive strip; b) providing the release layer containing the adhesive strip over the seam, wherein the front side of the release layer containing the adhesive strip is in contact with the seam and mutually mating members; c) thermal compressive adhesive bonding of the release layer to the seam, and d) optionally postcuring the seam; and wherein virtually no flashing of the adhesive outside the seam occurs.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 11, 2001
Date of Patent: June 10, 2003
    Assignee: Xerox Corporation
Inventors: Ralph A. Mosher, Ihor W. Tarnawskyj, Matthew J. Torpey, William M. Prest, Jr., Jodie L. Watson
