Patent number: 11808604Abstract: One or more devices in a data analysis computing system may be configured to receive and analyze movement data, and determine driving trips associated driving data based on the received movement data. Movement data may be collected by one or more mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablet computers, and the like. One or more driving trips may be identified based on the movement data collected by the mobile devices, including acceleration data, speed data, and rotation rate data. After identifying a driving trip, the previously collected movement data and/or additional driving data may be analyzed to determine additional driving trip data, such as the driver, vehicle, and/or additional driving factors.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2022Date of Patent: November 7, 2023Assignee: Allstate Insurance CompanyInventors: Jennifer A. Patent number: 11783644Abstract: Systems and apparatuses for identifying a type of issue associated with a stopped vehicle are provided. The system may determine a current location of the vehicle and determine whether the vehicle is currently located on a highway. In some examples, the determined location of the vehicle may cause the system to transmit instructions controlling an amount or type of data collected by sensors and/or transmitted to the system. If the vehicle is on a highway, the system may then determine whether the vehicle is stopped. If so, the system may determine a reason for the vehicle stopping. Upon determining that the vehicle is stopped for an urgent reason, the system may transmit a request for roadside assistance to a service provider computing device and may generate a first type of notification. Upon determining that the vehicle is stopped for a non-urgent situation reason, the system may generate and transmit a second type of notification for display.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2021Date of Patent: October 10, 2023Assignee: Allstate Insurance CompanyInventors: Dogan Civgin, Matthew James Manzella

Publication number: 20220299324Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for detecting vehicular accidents based on sensor data, such as data from a mobile device in a vehicle or data from the vehicle's sensors. If an accident is detected, the system may determine whether to collect sensor data from additional sources, such as additional vehicle sensors or additional mobile devices (e.g., a pedestrian's mobile device or a mobile device within a vehicle). The system may also determine whether to collect data from traffic devices or from contextual data sources. The data may be used by the system to determine which party is at fault in the accident. The data may also be used to generate a visualization of the accident.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2021Publication date: September 22, 2022Inventors: Andrew L. Carbery, Matthew James Manzella, Cynthia Sandberg, Connor Walsh

Patent number: 11113775Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for standardized evaluation of new drivers seeking driver's licenses. A driving license acquisition system may determine the requirements for a new driver to obtain a full driver's license in a particular state, track the driver's driving performance to determine when the requirements are met, and administer a written test and a driving test. Upon passing the written test and the driving test, the driving license acquisition system may communicate with a driver's license issuing authority system (e.g., Department of Motor Vehicles) to recommend issuing a driver's license to the driver. The driving license acquisition system may reduce the need for a parent or other supervisor to monitor the new driver's driving record, and may reduce the need for the new driver visiting a local driver's license issuing authority to obtain a driver's license.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2018Date of Patent: September 7, 2021Assignee: ALLSTATE INSURANCE COMPANYInventor: Matthew James Manzella

Patent number: 10984480Abstract: A method of encouraging safe driving of a vehicle using a remote starter device installed at a vehicle is provided. The remote starter device determines whether it is in signal communication with a remote starter application operating at a mobile computing device separate from the remote starter device. When the remote starter device is in signal communication with the remote starter application, the remote starter device permits ignition of the vehicle. When the remote starter device is not in signal communication with the remote starter application, the remote starter device prevents ignition of the vehicle. The remote starter application may present to a driver of the vehicle an insurance rate for taking a trip in the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2018Date of Patent: April 20, 2021Assignee: Allstate Insurance CompanyInventors: Rothana Srey, Matthew James Manzella
