  • Publication number: 20160338581
Abstract: Disclosed is a laryngoscope comprising a handle and an insertion section which extends from the handle, wherein the insertion section comprises a tube guide for retaining and guiding an endotracheal tube during intubation, wherein the handle comprises at least one external tube engaging formation, such as a tube guiding member or tube retaining member. There is also disclosed a laryngoscope having a handle and insertion section which adapted to detachably retain and guide an endotracheal tube along a lateral side of the insertion section and handle such that a retained endotracheal tube is continuously curved, and preferably under flexural tension, from the most proximal location where the handle contacts the retained endotracheal tube to the most distal location where the insertion section contacts the superior side of a retained endotracheal tube.

  • Publication number: 20160317010
Abstract: Disclosed is a video laryngoscope having a body, an insertion section extending from the body generally parallel to a median plane of the laryngoscope extending through the body, and a display screen assembly extending from the body generally perpendicular to the median plane, the body comprising a grip portion intermediate the display screen assembly and the insertion section. The display screen assembly, comprising a display screen, extends laterally from the body and the inner edge of the display screen falls within the lateral extent of the body. The grip portion is also of a minimum size to allow an adult to grip the laryngoscope, the hand abutting the screen assembly.

  • Publication number: 20160317011
Abstract: A laryngoscope insertion section for a laryngoscope, which is typically a video laryngoscope, includes a lateral tube guide configured to retain an endotracheal tube in a plane. A viewing port for a camera or other image collector is laterally displaced from the plane of the endotracheal tube. The said plane of the endotracheal tube is aligned substantially in the same plane as a patient's median plane and the tube can be advanced into the larynx using a natural curving motion similar to the motion used to introduce an endotracheal tube using a convention laryngoscope. In a preferred embodiment, the distal tip of the insertion section and a retained endotracheal tube will be located in the patient's median plane during intubation. As the tube guide retains endotracheal tubes substantially in a plane, lateral curvature is avoided, reducing resistance to advancement of the tube.

  • Publication number: 20160317008
Abstract: A video laryngoscope has an arm comprising a video camera, at least one electrical conductor extending to the video camera, an elongate electrical conductor retaining member retaining the electrical conductor and an overmoulding extending around the elongate cable retaining member and having a smooth outer surface. Providing a laryngoscope arm overmoulded to provide a smooth outer surface has the benefit of allowing the laryngoscope arm to be readily cleaned or sterilised, and minimises the number of features, such as seams or joints, where dirt or infectious bodies may be retained.

  • Patent number: 9459326
Abstract: A battery pack (10) for an electrical device (60) has a cover portion which forms part of the assembled electrical device (60) and a seal (78) for forming a waterproof seal between the battery pack (10) and the electrical device (10). Thus, every new battery pack can form a fresh seal with the electrical device (60), allowing effective waterproofing. A battery pack (10) for an electrical device (60) includes a memory storing a value indicative the remaining available rated capacity of the battery pack (10). The stored value is changed in use to reflect reducing capacity. The initial stored value is chosen so that there is a very high (e.g. >99.9%) confidence that the battery pack will provide at least the capacity indicated by the initial stored value. This reduces the chance of failure during emergency procedures. An override facility is provided.

  • Patent number: 8845525
Abstract: A laryngoscope insertion section includes an elongate support member and a tube guide having a resilient tube guiding member, to enable the insertion section to be used with endotracheal tubes having a wide range of external diameters. The breadth and/or thickness of the insertion section can therefore be less when retaining an endotracheal tube having a relatively small external diameter, enabling the insertion section to reliably guide tubes having a range of external diameters and to reliably guide relatively small external diameter tubes while occupying less volume that would otherwise be required in order for the tube guide to be able to guide tubes having a larger external diameter.
