Publication number: 20220361765Abstract: The invention features methods for detecting the hydration state or vascular volume of a subject using a device capable of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurement. The methods involve exposing a portion of a tissue of the subject in vivo to a magnetic field and RF pulse from the device to excite hydrogen nuclei of water within the tissue portion, and measuring a relaxation parameter of the hydrogen nuclei in the tissue portion, the relaxation parameter being a quantitative measure of the hydration state or vascular volume of the subject as a whole. The invention also features devices and computer-readable storage media for performing the methods of the invention.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 2, 2022Publication date: November 17, 2022Inventors: Michael J. CIMA, Matthew LI, Christophoros C. VASSILIOU, Negar TAVASSOLIAN, Lina Avancini COLUCCI

Publication number: 20210163872Abstract: Systems and methods for the dynamic co-culturing of two cell populations are provided. The system includes a barrier configured to physically separate a stimulator cell population from a responder cell population disposed within a container. The barrier is permeable to the secreted factors of at least one of the cell populations. The responder cell population can thereby be altered by exposure to the secreted factors to produce a population of reprogrammed cells that includes biomolecules (e.g., nucleic acids) originating from the stimulator cell population and/or that exhibits one or more additional or modified functional activities than a parental population of the reprogrammed cells.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2019Publication date: June 3, 2021Inventors: Biju Parekkadan, Matthew Li

Publication number: 20200383574Abstract: Methods of fluid assessment and treatment, which may include measuring a quantitative relaxation time (T2) of a muscle of a patient to determine whether the patient is hypovolemic, euvolemic, or hypervolemic. Methods of treatment may include determining a first fluid status of a patient by measuring a first quantitative relaxation time (T2) of a muscle of the patient, and administering to the patient a fluid reduction treatment or a hydration treatment.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 24, 2020Publication date: December 10, 2020Inventors: Michael J. Patent number: 10564237Abstract: A Unilateral Linear Halbach magnet configuration includes a central magnetized region recessed relative to adjacent magnetized regions disposed on opposite sides of the central magnetized region. The Unilateral Linear Halbach magnet configuration further includes side (or outer) magnetized regions disposed adjacent the center-adjacent magnetized regions. The center and center-adjacent magnetized regions have like-pointing magnetization vectors while the magnetization vectors of the side magnetized regions point in directions orthogonal to the magnetization vectors of the center and center-adjacent regions. Further, the magnetization vectors of the side magnetized regions point in opposite directions.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2018Date of Patent: February 18, 2020Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyInventors: Ashvin Bashyam, Michael J.
