    Abstract: A method of authentication signaling on a telephone system includes preparing an authentication signal to be sent over the telephone system, sending the authentication signal over the telephone system from a first location to a second location, authenticating a user identity using stored authentication information upon receipt of the authentication signal at the second location, creating an authentication response signal to the authentication signal using a result of authenticating the user identity, and sending the authentication response signal to the first location from the second location.
