  • Patent number: 9517692
Abstract: A liquid storage tank or a work vehicle requiring high ground clearance has an inverted sump within a tank volume defined between a tank floor and peripheral walls. In one configuration, the sump includes four sump walls of various configurations and extending at various heights within the tank volume. A flow passage is defined by the spacing between the various sump walls and a peripheral wall. The tank floor may have an inclined section, which in cooperation with the sump and a spanner wall, defines a supplemental inverted sump in communication with the flow passage. As a fuel tank, the sump is configured to store fuel within a sump volume sufficient to satisfy prescribed runtimes in various off-level conditions of the vehicle.
    Type: Grant
