  • Publication number: 20190040426
Abstract: A batch fermentation process ferments a starch hydrolysate containing 80-98 weight percent of glucose based on total carbohydrate and 0.3-5% weight percent of isomaltose based on total carbohydrate to a fermentation product. A fermentation broth is formed containing a first portion of a total amount of the starch hydrolysate so that the fermentation broth has an initial glucose concentration of at least about 50 g/L. Fermentation is carried out until the fermentation broth contains 30 g/L or less of glucose. An effective amount of at least one active enzyme that converts isomaltose into glucose is adding to the fermentation broth. Then the remaining portion of the total amount of starch hydrolysate is fed into the fermentation broth to maintain a glucose concentration of from about 5 to about 15 g/L in the fermentation broth throughout the feeding step. The final fermentation broth containing the fermentation product is then produced.

  • Patent number: 10166019
Abstract: Various systems and methods are provided for surgical and interventional planning, support, post-operative follow-up, and functional recovery tracking. In general, data related to retraction of tissue can be gathered during performance of a surgical procedure. In one embodiment, the data can be used during performance of the surgical procedure, e.g., to determine whether a length of time a tissue is retracted using a retractor reaches a predetermined threshold amount of time, an amount of tissue retraction reaches a predetermined amount of tissue, and an amount of pressure being placed on tissue and/or nerves as a result of retraction reaches a predetermined amount of pressure, and/or the data can be used after performance of the surgical procedure, e.g., in determining a correlation between the data and patient pain level data.

  • Patent number: 8202320
Abstract: A method of implanting an intervertebral disc prosthesis in a patient comprises selecting a superior and inferior endplates from a plurality of endplates having different endplate features. The different endplate features include different structural and material composition features. In addition, a core is selected from a plurality of cores having different core features such as different structural and material composition features. In one embodiment, the core is a composite core comprised of a first material and a different second material. After the endplates and core are selected, the intervertebral disc prosthesis is assembled with the selected core positioned between the selected endplates. The assembled intervertebral disc prosthesis is then positioned on an insertion tool and implanted in the patient.
