  • Publication number: 20080009571
Abstract: A molding composition has a bulk resin component formed from: a) 5 to 93 percent by weight of cycloaliphatic polyester resin such as poly(1,4-cyclohexane-dimethanol-1,4-dicarboxylate having a melt viscosity of at least 6000 poise; b) 5 to 93 percent by weight of an acrylate polymer or co-polymer; and c) 2 to 30 percent by weight of an impact modifier with a a shell comprising a repeating units derived from a C1-12 alkyl(meth)acrylate and a rubbery core having weatherability properties. The composition may further include a polycarbonate polymer or a styrene-acrylonitrile polymer as a phase compatabilizer as well as other conventional additives such as pigments, mineral fillers, antioxidants and the like. The composition has improved ductility, impact strength and weatherability.

  • Publication number: 20070238846
Abstract: Disclosed herein are polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer articles. In one embodiment, a ?th inch thick bar formed from the thermoplastic composition has a B-Y ratio of less than or equal to about 1.75. This article, which has a dimension that is greater than or equal to 1.5 cm, comprises the thermoplastic composition which comprises a polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer, wherein the copolymer comprises repeating diorganosiloxane units of formula (1): wherein each R is, independently, a C1-13 monovalent organic group; and E has an average value of 20 to 35.

  • Publication number: 20070082989
Abstract: A thermoplastic composition comprises a polycarbonate, an ionizing radiation stabilizing additive, and a poly-substituted aromatic compound of formula: wherein X is an aryl group; Y is a non-hydrogen substituent group, a is 1 to 4, b is 0 to 4, a+b is less than or equal to 4, and c is 0 or 1; and wherein the amounts and identities of the polycarbonate, ionizing radiation stabilizing additive, and poly-substituted aromatic compound are selected such that a molded article having a thickness of 3.18 millimeters and comprising the thermoplastic composition has, after exposure to gamma radiation at 83 kGy and when measured according to ASTM D1925-70, an increase in yellowness index (dYI) of less than or equal to 50, when compared to the unexposed thermoplastic composition.

  • Publication number: 20070060716
Abstract: A thermoplastic composition comprises a resin composition comprising a polycarbonate having a weight averaged molecular weight of greater than or equal to 30,000 as measured using gel permeation chromatography, a polysiloxane-polycarbonate comprising 1 to 50 weight percent of siloxane units; and a SAN copolymer, wherein the amounts of polycarbonate, polysiloxane-polycarbonate, and SAN copolymer are selected such that fatigue failure for the thermoplastic composition occurs at greater than or equal to 70,000 cycles at a pressure of 28.2 MPa and a frequency of 5 Hz according to ASTM D638-03 type I, and the viscosity of the thermoplastic composition is less than or equal to 112 Pa-s when measured at a shear rate of 6,000 sec?1 and at 300° C. according to ASTM D4440-01. A method of making the thermoplastic is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050101757
Abstract: A composition includes a polycarbonate-polysiloxane block copolymer that has at least one polycarbonate block and at least one polysiloxane block, and a surface modifying agent that includes at least one polysiloxane segment. Increased levels of the surface modifying agent can be incorporated without compromising high transmittance and low haze. The compositions also exhibit improved hemocompatibility and are therefore useful for a variety of articles that may contact blood.
