    Abstract: A catheter integral with a valved needle-free connector provides a safety catheter device configured to receive a blunt cannula and sharp needle forming an insertion mechanism. The sharp needle is mounted within a needle tube and a control handle is used to slide the sharp needle out of and into the protective needle tube. When the insertion mechanism is mounted to the connector and the control handle is used to slide the sharp needle out of the tube, a blunt cannula first moves into contact with and enters the bore of the valve mechanism of the connector opening it and protecting it from damage that may be caused by the sharp needle. The sharp needle is then extended through the connector and extends out the distal end of the catheter so that a venipuncture procedure may be performed to properly locate the catheter in the patient's circulatory system. Once located, the needle may be retracted into the insertion mechanism, the insertion mechanism disconnected from the connector, and discarded.

    Abstract: A security device for attachment to an article to deter theft of the article has a housing containing an alarm system including an audible alarm with a defeat mechanism having a two-part connector that attaches to both a cable and a locking mechanism. The connector includes a mechanical fuse (e.g., two-step ferrule holder) that provides defeat prevention of the alarm device. The locked device alarms if pulled too hard from twisting the cable without releasing the primary lock. The connector is preferably shaped as a generally elliptic cylindrical bayonet having an oval transverse cross-section and a truncated oblique cone-shaped distal end. This enables the plug to be inserted into a locking channel of the locking mechanism in either of two directions facilitating the locking of the attached cable about an article of merchandise.

    Abstract: The tape measure may consist of a relatively large tape blade. To accommodate a large blade the tape measure housing is formed as a hollow annulus having an open central core where the blade is wound about the core of the annular housing. Because the housing has a central opening it can be easily carried in one hand. The device also includes a locking mechanism for locking the tape in an extended position and a rewind mechanism for rewinding the tape back into the housing. The rewind mechanism may comprise a belt drive, opposed springs with a cam lock, a linear spring compressed by a gear drive, a motor driven gear drive, a flat spring and gear drive or a magnetic drive.

    Abstract: A security device for a product for sale. The device includes a housing having a cable for engaging the product. A free end of the cable has a locking pin receivable within a bore in the housing. A locking mechanism is provided to lock the locking pin within the bore. The mechanism includes a slider and a clamping member. When the slider moves away from the clamping member, the locking pin is clamped in the bore. When the slider moves toward the clamping member, the member disengages the locking pin which may then be withdrawn from the bore. The locking mechanism further includes a magnetic spring clip that prevents the slider from being moved toward the clamping member. The spring clip is only deactivateable by a complementary magnetic key.

    Abstract: A merchandising tag comprising a housing with a first compartment defined therein and having a door pivotally mounted thereon to selectively allow or prevent access to the first compartment. The first compartment is adapted to receive a price tag therein. The housing is also provided with an attachment mechanism which has at least one portion which extends outwardly away from the housing is adapted to engage the product. The tag includes at least one alarm system disposed within the housing. A locking mechanism is provided for simultaneously locking the moveable door to prevent access to the first compartment; securing the portion of the attachment mechanism to the product so that the housing is not detachable therefrom; and for arming the at least one alarm system. When the locking mechanism is engaged, any attempt to remove the tag from the product, open the door, or remove the product with attached tag from the store will result in a loud-attention getting sound being emitted from the housing.
