  • Patent number: 10107371
Abstract: A rotator mechanism for rotating an elongate member that is coupled to a reciprocating member of a pumping system includes: a body having a through-hole for receiving a portion of the elongate member; a first freewheel clutch configured to cause the elongate member to rotate incrementally about the body axis in a predetermined direction when the reciprocating member reciprocates; and a second freewheel clutch spaced from the first clutch and configured to prevent the elongate member from rotating opposite the predetermined direction when the reciprocating member reciprocates. One or both of the clutches includes circumferentially-spaced clutch elements, that may include rollers or sprags or both.

  • Patent number: 9541073
Abstract: A rotator mechanism for rotating an elongate member in a pumping system includes a body member having a longitudinal body axis and a through-hole aligned with the body axis and configured to receive the elongate member. The rotator mechanism also includes a worm gear concentric with the body axis and a worm meshing with the worm gear. The rotator mechanism includes a lever configured to rotate the worm, and a clutch coupled between the lever and the worm and configured to cause the worm to rotate in a first direction when the lever moves in the first direction. Rotation of the worm causes the worm gear and the elongate member to rotate about the body axis.

  • Patent number: 7854259
Abstract: A rod guide is provided for use in a rotating rod string (12) for powering a progressive cavity pump (14) for pumping downhole fluids through tubing (16) to the surface. The rod guide includes a rotor sleeve (20) secured to the rod string. The rotor sleeve includes a plurality of axially spaced reduced diameter body portions 22, and a plurality of axially spaced enlarged diameter ridge portions 24. Upper and lower stop surfaces 26, 28 on the ridge portions permit axial movement of the stator sleeve with respect to the rotor sleeve. A stator sleeve (40) positioned over the rotor sleeve, and has a sleeve body (42) with a generally circular configuration with opposing circumferential ends (44, 46) spreadable to position the stator sleeve about the rotor sleeve. A plurality of ribs (48) extend outward from the stator sleeve body.

The rod guide includes a rotor sleeve (20) secured to the rod string and having a plurality of circumferentially spaced exterior surfaces (22) each positioned substantially along an exterior of a cylinder. The rotor sleeve also includes one or more stop surfaces (24) for limiting axial movement of a stator sleeve (40) with respect to the rotor sleeve, and two or more axially extending cavities (26) each extending from a bottommost surface to an opposing uppermost surface of the rotor sleeve and passing through the one or more stop surfaces. Stator sleeve (40) surrounds the rotor sleeve and has an interior surface (42) for engaging the plurality of circumferentially spaced exterior surfaces of the rotor sleeve, and a plurality of ribs (44) extending outward from two or more outer cylindrical surface portions (44) of the stator sleeve.

  • Patent number: 7635031
Abstract: A fluid powered tool is disclosed for assembling a two piece guide on a sucker rod at a well site. The tool includes a table (26) laterally moveable with respect to the sucker rod and supporting a fluid powered cylinder (28), a bottom plate (42) for engaging the rod guide, and a top plate (56) also for engaging the rod guide. At least one vertical guide (30) is provided for guiding vertical movement of at least one of the bottom plate and top plate, and a horizontal rail (32) is provided for guiding lateral movement of the table. Each of the top plate and the bottom plate include a recess for receiving the sucker rod when engaged by the guide. The fluid powered cylinder moves the bottom plate with respect to the top plate to assembly the guide on the rod.
