Patent number: 9767667Abstract: A system that observes and analyzes, and, only in the event of a significant negative condition, notifies and reports the event. In a hospital environment, the device includes a bedside unit connected to a pad or coverlet with a sensor array (placed under the patient) and also to an existing hospital nurse call system via an interface. The bedside unit is a wall-mounted unit with a display that becomes active when an alarm condition is enabled. Vigilance alarms are suspended if a patient is detected out of bed. An unable-to-measure alert is provided if the system is unable to reliably monitor. An alert message is generated and maintained on the display screen to inform a responding caregiver of the time and reason for any alarm. The system also may be adapted for use as a monitoring system for operators of motor vehicles, aircraft or other devices.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2016Date of Patent: September 19, 2017Assignee: HOANA MEDICAL, INC.Inventors: Patrick K. Sullivan, Matthew S. Glei, Paul M. Embree, Shashidhar B. Hebsur, Nicholas C. Epperson

Publication number: 20110001622Abstract: A system is provided for integrating a passive sensor or sensor array into a patient's mattress to support continuous passive monitoring of a patients' physiological conditions in a hospital setting. The sensor or sensor array may be incorporated into the mattress by fixing it to a coverlet that surrounds the mattress, or by embedding it within the mattress core. Alternatively, the sensor or sensor array may be fixed to an underlayer positioned between the mattress core and the coverlet.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 26, 2010Publication date: January 6, 2011Applicant: HOANA MEDICAL, INC.Inventors: Jason M. Publication number: 20100052917Abstract: An intelligent medical vigilance system that observes and analyzes, and, only in the event of a clinically significant negative condition, notifies and reports the event to the care staff utilizing the hospital's existing nurse call system. The device includes a bedside unit connected to a pad or coverlet with a sensor array (placed under the patient) and also to an existing hospital nurse call system via an interface. Within the physical bedside unit are a signal processor and an alarm processor that measure data and evaluate whether a clinically significant event is occurring. The bedside unit is a wall-mounted unit with a display that becomes active when an alarm condition is enabled. The sensing pad or coverlet is a thin, piezoelectric film, or other similar sensing technology, with an array of sensors sheathed in soft padding and is not directly in contact with the skin of the patient.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 12, 2009Publication date: March 4, 2010Applicant: HOANA MEDICAL, INC.Inventors: PATRICK K. Patent number: 7656299Abstract: A bed exit and patient detection system especially adapted for use in the general medical or surgical floor area of a hospital or other healthcare facility as part of a vital signs monitoring and remote warning system includes a plurality of pressure sensors disposed in the patient's bed in a series of rectangular strips or zones that run laterally across the bed in the area of the patient's mid-back, hips and mid-legs, respectively. Each zone contains a plurality of sensors, arranged symmetrically about the centerline of the bed, with the corresponding sensors on opposite sides of the centerline in each zone being connected in parallel. The sensors are connected to a processor with multiple input channels that continuously monitors the sensor states to determine, from the pattern of sensor states observed, whether the patient is in bed, out of bed or is actively attempting to exit the bed at the sides or foot of the bed.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2007Date of Patent: February 2, 2010Assignee: Hoana Medical, Inc.Inventors: Jason M. Gentry, Matthew S. Glei, Rose A. Mills

Patent number: 5956013Abstract: A computer controls a video display having a display screen for displaying ECG heartbeats superimposed over one another. The ECG data is collected during Holter monitoring and stored in a memory. A plurality of successive heartbeats are written to the display with their R-waves aligned. As the next new heartbeat in chronological order is displayed the longest-displayed heartbeat is removed. The total number of heartbeats displayed therefore remains constant. The user can select the total number of heartbeats, between one and five, to be displayed at one time. In one mode, a heartbeat is added, and removed, during each screen refresh cycle. In another mode, the user can step the display in either reverse or forward chronological order one step at a time. A second display is provided upon which heartbeat waveforms are added at the end of a continuous ECG waveform each time a new heartbeat waveform is superimposed in the other display. The same heartbeat waveform is written to each display at the same time.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1996Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Rommel R. Raj, Colin M. Portnuff, Matthew S. Glei

Patent number: 5739817Abstract: A method and apparatus for locating a predetermined position in a computer file. A continuous, static ECG waveform is displayed in rows on a CRT screen. A scroll bar permits a user to use a computer mouse to click and drag the scroll box to display different portions of the ECG data. When the cursor is on the scroll box and a button on the mouse is depressed, a data window opens adjacent the scroll box and displays the hours, minutes and seconds of the time of day when the ECG waveform of the portion currently displayed was recorded. The data window moves with the scroll box and continues to display current time of the data displayed. When the mouse button is released, the data window closes and the screen changes to display ECG waveform from the newly selected time.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1996Date of Patent: April 14, 1998Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Matthew S. Glei, Colin M. Portnuff, Rommel R. Raj

Patent number: 5224486Abstract: A computer controls a video display having a display screen for displaying ECG heartbeats superimposed over one another. The ECG data is collected during Holter monitoring and stored in a memory. The Holter monitor preliminarily classifies each beat to a morphology. A representative sample of each morphology is presented in a display window. Each sample can be overlaid with any other selected sample, in different colors, in a compare window having an enlarged scale from the display windows. After comparison, different morphologies can be merged and a selected beat classification can be reclassified to another morphology.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1992Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: David J.
