Patent number: 9913212Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for multi-SIM user equipment (UE) devices to perform data operations with a packet data network of a carrier associated with a first SIM of the UE. An indication of a requested data operation with the packet data network of the carrier associated with the first SIM of the UE may be received. The UE may be operating in a dual SIM mode in which the packet data network of the carrier associated with the first SIM of the UE is unavailable. It may be determined if one or more conditions for performing the requested data operation are present and if a data path to perform the requested data operation is available. The requested data operation may be performed if the one or more conditions for performing the requested data operation are present and if a data path to perform the requested data operation is available.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2017Date of Patent: March 6, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Harshit Chuttani, Chandiramohan Vasudevan, Matthew S. Klahn, Rajesh Ambati, Arun G. Mathias, Vikram Yerrabommanahalli

Patent number: 9307489Abstract: Methods and apparatus for preferring connections between networks. In one embodiment, a mobile device is capable of hybrid network operation (e.g. LTE and CDMA 1× operation), allowing the mobile device to be registered to a CDMA 1× network for voice calls while receiving and sending data traffic over a LTE network. However, any data sent by the LTE network may be lost if the data was transmitted during a tune-away to the CDMA 1× network to perform maintenance operations. In one variant, the mobile device can disable the idle voice connection to the CDMA 1× network based on a request from resident applications requiring real-time data streaming, which are more likely to experience data loss. Consequently, potential data loss due to a network tune-away is prevented, thereby improving data performance of the resident applications. In another embodiment, an adaptive transmit receive mode can be selectively disabled/enabled for data traffic.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2013Date of Patent: April 5, 2016Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Vikram B. Patent number: 9282514Abstract: Methods and apparatus for intelligently selecting and operating one or more air interfaces of a mobile wireless device for e.g., call setup time reduction. In one embodiment, operation of a high speed cellular interface is selectively adjusted or disabled or switched out when not required so as to minimize call setup times by, e.g., using a different cellular interface to receive pages. In one implementation, the wireless device includes a high-speed cellular interface, a lower-speed cellular interface, and a WLAN (e.g., Wi-Fi) interface.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2013Date of Patent: March 8, 2016Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Arun G. Mathias, Matthew S. Klahn, Vikram B. Yerrabommanahalli, Anush Nadathur

Patent number: 9204249Abstract: A method for using a location to refine network-provided time zone information is disclosed. The method can include a wireless communication device receiving a time zone information message from a network; determining multiple candidate time zones matching a set of time zone identification parameters included in the received time zone information message; deriving a location of the wireless communication device; and using the location to select a current time zone for the wireless communication device from the candidate time zones matching the set of time zone identification parameters.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2013Date of Patent: December 1, 2015Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Ronald Keryuan Huang, Jay N. Bruins, Marc Edward Schonbrun, Vinay A. Ramaswamy, Longda Xing, Madhusudan Chaudhary, Matthew S. Klahn

Patent number: 9148847Abstract: A method for implementing mobile device-initiated inter-radio access technology (I-RAT) handovers between networks includes a wireless device communicating with a first network using an internet protocol (IP) address that was received from the first network during an initial attachment procedure. The wireless device may initiate an I-RAT handover procedure to connect to a second wireless network using a configuration message that includes a handover attach type. Once the connection with the second network is established, the wireless device may receive the information from the second wireless network using the same IP address. The wireless device may force the wireless device into dormancy and prevent data transfer, and initiate another I-RAT handover procedure to upgrade and connect to the first network, by sending an attach request message that includes a handover attach type.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2012Date of Patent: September 29, 2015Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Abhishek Sen, Anush G. Nadathur, Madhusudan Chaudhary, Matthew S. Klahn, Sang Ho Baek, Vikram B. Yerrabommanahalli
