    Abstract: A retractable syringe that pulls the needle and holder from a fluid sealed releasable connection in the open forward end of the syringe barrel to a position enclosed within the barrel. A clip may lock the holder to the barrel to prevent release. The piston shaft may then be broken off at the piston and the free end of the shaft inserted through the now open forward end of the syringe barrel, enclosing and sealing the needle holder and the remaining fluid in the barrel, with the shaft holding the needle from longitudinal movement within the barrel. The syringe can then be disposed of without allowing access to the needle or having fluid leakage.
