  • Patent number: 9511423
Abstract: A collet adapter operates a draw-type collet in an axially stationary mode in a machine spindle that would otherwise operate with a stationary collet. The machine spindle has an axially stationary outer portion including a cap nut and an axially movable sleeve inside the axially stationary portion. The collet adapter includes an adapter body and a restraining apparatus. The adapter body has an outside surface that fits into the axially movable sleeve such that adapter body moves axially with the axially movable sleeve. The adapter body has an inside surface that receives the draw-type collet in sliding engagement. The restraining apparatus is configured to transmit an axial force from the stationary cap nut to a rearward portion of the draw-type collet to restrain axial motion of the draw-type collet.

  • Patent number: 6109150
Abstract: A torque applying and indicating wrench is comprised of a pawl with a torque sensing end for both ratcheting, and direct sensing of torque during application. The torque sensing end is bifurcated into a cantilevered flexing beam and an optional reference beam. The flexing beam engages one or more ratchet teeth from a ratchet wheel contained in the wrench head of an elongated tool body. Torque is then transduced and indicated either mechanically or electronically.

  • Patent number: 5806859
Abstract: A hollow body and drawbar coupler connect to form a collet adaptor with external configuration matching that of a commonly available draw-style spring collet. A receptacle at the anterior portion of the body holds the adapted collet. Tension applied by a machine tool drawbar is transmitted through the draw bar coupler and draw tube to actuate the adapted collet. A stop sleeve within the adaptor body limits the draw stroke, and thus the clamping force applied to the collet. The collet is threaded inward or outward by a machine operator to adjust clamping force. A keying ring within the adaptor maintains radial position of the collet via a friction mechanism. Differentially threaded engagements of the adaptor drawbar with the adapted collet and the body provide a self contained means for clamping the collet when the adaptor is removed from the machine tool. An optional unitary, cylindrical protuberance provides an extended nose for improved access to a chucked workpiece.
