  • Patent number: 12247145
Abstract: Articles comprising, in order: a first adherend, a first primer layer, an adhesive layer, and a second adherend are provided, where the adhesive layer comprises pressure sensitive adhesive domains and structural adhesive domains. Typically, the first primer layer covers first portions of the first adherend adjacent to structural adhesive domains and does not cover second portions of the first adherend adjacent to pressure sensitive adhesive domains. Methods of making such articles are provided, which comprise applying a cure-initiating primer to first portions of the first adherend to form a first primer layer while leaving second portions of the first adherend bare of the first primer layer, and thereafter applying a curable adhesive film over the first primer layer, such that portions of the curable adhesive film are cured to form structural adhesive domains and other portions remain uncured pressure sensitive adhesive domains.

  • Publication number: 20250051614
Abstract: An adhesive system comprising a tape and an activator, wherein the activator includes an oxidizing agent and is a liquid at normal temperature and pressure; and wherein the tape includes a curable adhesive free-standing film adjacent to a curable foam support layer, wherein the curable adhesive free-standing film comprises: a) a film-forming polymer or oligomer; b) a species comprising unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups, which may be a) or a species other than a); and c) a transition metal cation.

  • Patent number: 12151491
Abstract: Adhesive tape rolls having detackified side faces are presented, and methods of their manufacture. In one embodiment, the method comprises applying one or more inks to a side face of an adhesive tape roll with an ink jet printing system. In some embodiments, inks are applied in an image-wise manner so as to create a pattern, text or graphics, which may include: barcodes. QR codes, brand information, manufacturing information, or remaining roll quantity indicia. In one aspect, the present methods enable elimination of packaging materials by two concurrent advantages: a) detackifying the side faces, which eliminates the need for packaging materials to prevent blocking of stacked rolls and accumulation of debris on side faces; and b) producing an adhesive tape roll bearing text, graphics, or other information on the side face of the roll, which eliminates the need for packaging materials to bear such information.

  • Publication number: 20230088278
Abstract: Debonding methods comprise: providing a bound article comprising, in order: a first adherend, a first primer layer, an adhesive layer, optionally a second primer layer, and a second adherend; heating the article to a release temperature; and separating the first and second adherends. At room temperature, the adhesive layer exhibits a high overlap shear of greater than 1.0 MPa (145 psi) or even greater than 5.0 MPa (725 psi), however, at release temperature, the adhesive layer exhibits an overlap shear of no more than 0.34 MPa (50 psi) or even no more than 0.21 MPa (30 psi). The release temperature may be a temperature between 100° C. and 150° C. The adhesive layer may comprise: a first film-forming polymer or oligomer; a cured polymer comprising a polymer of a first species comprising first unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups; a first transition metal cation; and optionally a quaternary ammonium salt.

  • Patent number: 9880332
Abstract: Multilayer stacks that can be used as decorative microsphere articles. The decorative microsphere articles can be a durable and aesthetically pleasing substitute for anodized aluminum and other matte metallic surfaces. The decorative microsphere articles are durable and can have a bright diffused appearance of any desired color, for example white, gold, silver, red, or other colors, while being capable of being manufactured using a roll-to-roll process. The decorative microsphere articles can also provide novel optical effects than can change at different viewing angles, including, for example, changing color with view angle, changing sharpness or clarity of an image or icon with view angle, and the like, that may allow customers to differentiate their products.
