Patent number: 11970112Abstract: A vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly includes a powerfold actuator electrically operable to pivot a mirror head relative to a mounting base. The powerfold actuator includes a biasing element disposed between an upper housing and an upper end of a pivot tube and releasably retains the powerfold actuator in at least one detent state. The powerfold actuator includes (i) a lower detent disposed between the base portion and a lower housing, (ii) an output gear disposed between the lower housing and the upper housing and (iii) an upper detent disposed between the lower housing and the upper housing. When the powerfold actuator is in a primary detent state, the lower detent and the output gear are rotationally fixed relative to the pivot tube and the upper detent is axially movable along the pivot tube. When the mirror head is manually moved, a secondary detent state is engaged.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2023Date of Patent: April 30, 2024Assignee: Magna Mirrors of America, Inc.Inventors: Matthew V. Publication number: 20240116442Abstract: A vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly includes a mirror head and a mounting base configured to mount the mirror assembly at a side of a vehicle. The mirror head accommodates a reflective element and an indicator module. With the vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly mounted at the side of the vehicle, and responsive to actuation by a driver of the vehicle of a turn signal input of the plurality of inputs, the indicator module projects a turn signal icon onto the ground proximate the side of the vehicle. With the vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly mounted at the side of the vehicle, and responsive to another input of the plurality of inputs, the indicator module projects another icon onto the ground proximate the side of the vehicle. The other icon projected onto the ground is a different color than the turn signal icon projected onto the ground.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2023Publication date: April 11, 2024Inventors: Justin E. Publication number: 20220227294Abstract: A vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly includes a mirror head movably mounted at a mounting arm via a pivot link. A locking mechanism includes a driving link, a receiver attached to the driving link, and a locking arm. The receiver receives a portion of the pivot link therein and includes a biasing element disposed at each end of the receiver and engaging respective sides of the portion of the pivot link. When the mirror head is moved relative to the mounting arm, the receiver moves to pivot the pivot link and swing the mirror head between retracted and extended positions. When the mirror head is moved to either position, the driving link is pivoted and causes a portion of the locking mechanism to engage the locking arm to move the locking arm into engagement with the mirror head to retain the mirror head in the respective position.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 18, 2022Publication date: July 21, 2022Inventor: Matthew V.
