  • Publication number: 20190085732
Abstract: A rocker arm assembly includes an outer arm having first and second low lift lobe contacting surfaces, an inner arm, and a latch assembly. The inner arm includes first and second opposed sidewalls extending between a first end and a second end, and a high lift lobe contacting surface disposed between the first and second opposed sidewalls. The first end is pivotably secured to the outer arm and operably associated with an engine valve, and the second end is operably associated with a lash adjuster and defining a latch bore. The latch assembly is movable between a first configuration and a second configuration. In the first configuration, the latch assembly engages the outer arm such that the outer arm rotates with the inner arm, and in the second configuration, the latch assembly disengages the outer arm such that the outer arm rotates independently from the inner arm.

  • Publication number: 20180363513
Abstract: An engine roller lifter for use in a leak-valvetrain of an internal combustion engine includes a body, a roller and an anti-rotation plug. The body includes an outer peripheral surface configured for sliding movement in a bore provided in the engine. The bore is supplied oil by an oil passage communicating therewith. The body defines an opening. The roller bearing is rotatably mounted to the body and is configured for rolling contact with an engine camshaft. The anti-rotation plug is received at the opening and has a plug body including an anti-rotation protrusion that extends radially beyond an outer peripheral surface of the plug body. • Patent number: 10132204
Abstract: A rocker arm assembly includes an outer arm having a first outer side arm and a second outer side arm, each of the first and second outer side arms having a low lift lobe contacting surface, an inner arm having a high lift lobe contacting surface and disposed between the first and second outer side arms, the inner arm having a first end and a second end operably associated with a lash adjuster and defining a latch bore, and a latch assembly arranged at least partially within the latch bore.

  • Publication number: 20180156140
Abstract: A switching rocker arm constructed in accordance to one example of the present disclosure includes an outer arm, an inner arm, a latch, an inner roller and a first torsion spring. The outer arm has a pair of outer arm portions and a connecting arm extending therebetween. The connecting arm includes an outwardly extending tab. The inner arm is pivotally secured to the outer arm and has an outwardly extending protrusion. The latch is configured to selectively extend to engage the outwardly extending tab. The inner roller and bearing is configured on the inner arm. The first torsion spring is disposed between the outer arm and the inner arm. A first end is engaged to the connecting arm and is restrained from outward movement by the outer arm and restrained from inward movement by the outwardly extending tab. A second end is restrained by the outwardly extending protrusion.

  • Patent number: 5954146
Abstract: A retractable drill bit system 10 comprises a drive sub 18 which is adapted for connection to a lower end of a drill 12, a tool 20 for installing and retracting drill bit segments 22 from the drive sub 18; and an insert 24 for selectively locking the bit segments 22 to an end of the drive sub 18 and releasing the bit segments 22. A plurality of recesses 5B are formed about an inner circumferential wall at one end of the drive sub 18 and a landing seat 32 formed about the inner wall upstream of the recesses 58. The area of the interior wall between the landing seat 32 and recesses 58 is profiled with a series of tapered and level surfaces. The tool 20 includes a slidable cradle 176 extending from one end about which the bit segments 22 are held during installation and retrieval. The bit segments 22 being held in place about the cradle by an elastic band 198.

  • Patent number: 5813481
Abstract: An insert for releasably retaining drill bit segments in a ground drill takes the form of a cylindrical tube movable within the ground drill between an installation position and a retrieval position. A pair of opposing tapered peaks extends from the upstream end of the insert. Sides of the peaks slope sharply in a downstream direction and lead to flats separating the peaks. When a running tool with radially extending latch dogs travels down the drill, the latch dogs contact the peaks to cause the tool to rotate about its longitudinal axis. When the latch dogs hit the flats they engage the insert, pushing it down into the installation position and locking the bit segments into a cutting position. Another set of latch dogs provided on the tool can engage slots formed in the insert to pull the insert upwardly and release the bit segments.
