  • Patent number: 7231594
Abstract: An electronic copy of a paper document, such as high school transcript, can be attached to an electronic document, such as an application for admission to an institution. The high school providing the paper document is required to have only a simple fax machine. When a student requests that a transcript accompany an electronic application, a request for the transcript is automatically generated by the application servicer and transmitted to the high school. The request includes a return facsimile cover sheet that includes an identifier that can be automatically machine-interpreted when the cover sheet is transmitted back to the servicer with the transcript. The identifier marking is sufficiently robust that it will be machine interpretable, even after rough treatment or serial copying and transmission by the high school.

  • Publication number: 20020107849
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved scholarship searching service that includes a scholarship search server that is connected to a plurality of client computers. The server presents each client with an interface that can be branded and customized to any institution, such as a college or financial aid provider, giving the appearance that the search service is being provided by the institution. The server provides a set of scholarships based on user information and in response to the user selecting one of the one or more search options. In one preferred embodiment, the scholarship server and thus the scholarship service is provided and administered by a third-party provider, in accordance with the desired specifications of a sponsor institution. In this embodiment, a provider institution can pay the third-party provider to provide the service as a gratuity to the sponsoring institution.

  • Publication number: 20020087646
Abstract: A group electronic mail (e-mail) mailbox is provided to enable multiple users to work collaboratively and simultaneously with one or more electronic communications received in the group e-mail mailbox. The group e-mail mailbox provides tools that allow members of a group to access and manipulate the received electronic communications. Status information associated with the received electronic communications is provided to active members of the group. To allow the active members of the group to simultaneously monitor the status of the received electronic communications, the status information being presented to the active members of the group can be selectively updated. Predefined responses in response to such electronic communications may be prepared and/or sent automatically. The contents of the predefined responses are determined from the received electronic communication or may be determined according to the contents of a filter specifying a criterion or criteria.
