  • Patent number: 9467021
Abstract: An internal combustion power-plant comprising a combustion housing having a crankshaft that is driven when a fuel is combusted in the combustion housing. An induction generator is positioned around the combustion housing. The induction generator includes a stator connected to an outer surface of the combustion housing and an induction rotor that rotates about the stator. The induction rotor and the crankshaft are mechanically coupled to a sprocket via a clutch mechanism. The stator is electrically connected to power electronics that are within a nacelle that supports and surrounds the power-plant, as well as acts as a heat exchanger for the power-plant and power electronics closed loop cooling system. The induction generator operates as a generator to draw power off the crankshaft, via the clutch mechanism, to rotate the induction rotor which in turn induces current in the stator.
