  • Patent number: 6328592
Abstract: An insulation displacement electrical connector assembly is disclosed for electrically terminating the conductors of a multi-conductor insulated flat cable. A connector base has a plurality of terminal-receiving passages. A connector cover is positionable on the base to provide a cable-receiving passage therebetween. The cable-receiving passage traverses the terminal-receiving passages. Complementary interengaging latches are provided between the base and the cover to hold the base and cover together clamping the cable in the cable-receiving passage. A plurality of insulation displacement terminals are movably mounted in the terminal-receiving passages for movement between inactive positions out of engagement with the conductors of the cable and insulation-displacement positions piercing the insulation of the cable and electrically terminating the conductors.

  • Patent number: 5885104
Abstract: A cylindrical plug connector is provided for terminating an electrical cable which includes at least first and second inner conductors surrounded by an outer insulating jacket. A generally cylindrical dielectric housing mounts at least an outer cylindrical conductive contact and an inner conductive contact. The inner conductive contact is terminated to one of the first and second inner conductors of the cable. A terminal has a body portion in engagement with the outer cylindrical conductive contact. The terminal includes a first crimp arm projecting from the body portion for crimping termination with the other of the first and second inner conductors of the cable, and a second crimp arm projecting from the body portion for crimping onto the outer insulating jacket of the cable.

  • Patent number: 5885088
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes a first connector having a dielectric housing mounting a plurality of terminals. The first connector has a conventional DC jack socket with a central contact pin adapted for receiving a conventional DC jack plug. A second connector mates with the first connector and includes a dielectric housing mounting a plurality of terminals for electrical connection to the terminals of the first connector. The second connector has a locating peg insertable into the DC jack socket of the first connector. The locating peg is generally hollow to accommodate the central contact pin of the DC jack socket.

  • Patent number: 5716230
Abstract: An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing having a mounting face adapted for surface mounting on a printed circuit board. A conductive terminal is mounted on the housing and includes a board contact portion for engagement with a circuit trace on the printed circuit board and a spring contact portion for engagement with a contact element of a mating connector component. The board contact portion is fixed at the mounting face of the housing and is adapted to engage the circuit trace on the printed circuit board when the contact portion is moved in a direction generally perpendicular to the board. The spring contact portion of the terminal projects from a side of the housing and is adapted to engage the contact element of the mating connector component when the contact element is moved in a direction generally parallel to the board.

  • Patent number: 5511986
Abstract: A connector provides an interconnection between an IC pack and a printed circuit board. The connector is in the form of a header for mounting on the printed circuit board and into which the IC pack is inserted. A plurality of terminals on the header are adapted for interconnection of the IC pack to electrical traces on the printed circuit board. An electrical switch is provided in the header and is actuated by the IC pack upon insertion of the IC pack therewithin and therefore detects the presence of the IC pack within the header. The switch is interconnected to electrical traces on the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 5387134
Abstract: An electrical connector system includes first and second electrical connectors mateable in a given general direction (A). Each connector includes a housing having a mating end and at least a pair of terminals mounted on the housing. The pair of terminals of each connector have contact portions engageable with the contact portions of the pair of terminals of the other connector. The contact portions of the terminals of at least one of the connectors are at angles to the mating direction to define a generally V-shaped engaging configuration. The contact portions of the terminals of at least one of the connectors are resilient. Therefore, wiping engagement between the respective terminals is effected during mating of the connectors, and the resilient contact portions are effective to store energy upon mating of the connectors, which energy is effective to assist in unmating of the connectors.

  • Patent number: 5083947
Abstract: An electrical wire trap-type terminal includes a pair of terminal arms projecting from a base. The terminal arms are spring loaded whereby, when the terminal arms are moved to a conductor receiving position, the terminal arms will return automatically to a conductor trapping position. The terminal arms define a jaw configured such that relative movement of the terminal arms to the conductor receiving position opens the jaw to receive the conductor, the jaw trapping the conductor when the terminal arms are released and in their conductor trapping position. A housing is provided in conjunction with the terminal and through which the conductor is inserted into the jaw. The housing is effective to open the jaw to the conductor receiving position.
