  • Publication number: 20120323317
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for securing heart valve repair or replacement prostheses in or near the heart. The apparatus and methods are particularly well suited for traditional surgery or minimally invasive surgery. The invention secures a heart valve repair or replacement prosthesis in place while lowering surgical exposure. The invention improves the ease of implantation because it reduces the number of surgical knots a clinician would normally tie in the limited space in and around the heart.

  • Publication number: 20120253457
Abstract: Compressible heart valve annulus sizing templates suitable for minimally-invasive or otherwise reduced accessibility surgeries. The sizing templates may be folded, rolled, or otherwise compressed into a reduced configuration for passage through an access tube or other such access channel. Once expelled from the access tube the sizing templates expand to their original shape for use in sizing the annulus. The templates may be formed of an elastomeric polymer material such as silicone, a highly elastic metal such as NITINOL, or both. Grasping tabs or connectors for handles permit manipulation from outside the body. A NITINOL wireform may be compressed for passage through an access tube and expelled from the distal end thereof into a cloth cover to assume a sizer shape.

  • Publication number: 20110144742
Abstract: A delivery system for delivering an expandable member to a treatment location includes an elongate shaft and an expandable member coupled to a distal end of the elongate shaft. The expandable member is moveable between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, and has an inner expandable member and a plurality of outer expandable members that at least partially surround the inner expandable member.

  • Patent number: 7842085
Abstract: An annuloplasty ring and ring holder combination includes a generally triangular-shaped ring and a generally T-shaped holder. The ring holder has a base portion forming the top of the T shape and engaging against a first segment of the ring, with a radial arm extending from the base portion and forming the post of the T. The radial arm engages against a junction between two segments of the ring. The invention includes placements of suture holes and cutting wells which, in combination with the improved ring holder shape, afford the user improved access and visibility to the surgical site, the ring, and to the suture that is used to retain the annuloplasty ring to the holder.
