  • Patent number: 7735900
Abstract: A convertible includes an automobile body and a movable roof having at least a rear roof part and an upper roof part, wherein the rear roof part extends at least between a belt line and the upper roof part. The upper roof part is located above a passenger compartment and in front of the rear roof part. The rear roof part has a middle section that encloses a rear window and is located between lateral main posts of the automobile body when the roof is closed. The main posts and the middle section are each rotationally connected with the automobile body and with the upper roof part by joints which form a multijoint linkage whose axis of rotation lie in a common plane in at least one movement position of the roof, so that at least one additional support of the upper roof part located in front of the rear roof part is provided for supporting the upper roof part with respect to the automobile body, wherein the additional support is active in the at least one movement position of the roof.

  • Patent number: 6443517
Abstract: A vehicle roof has a convertible top which can be adjusted between a closed position and an open position. The top spans the vehicle interior in the closed position and is deposited in a convertible top depositing device in the open position. Furthermore, a rollover bar is coupled with the convertible top depositing device. For a facilitated assembly and function testing, the rollover bar forms a cohesive, firmly connected unit with the convertible top depositing device and the convertible top. The unit can be integrated in the vehicle as a preassembled module.

  • Patent number: 6345860
Abstract: A vehicle roof for a motor vehicle has a roof part which can be moved in the longitudinal direction and can be adjusted between a closed position which closes a roof opening in the motor vehicle and an open position which releases the roof opening. Furthermore, a driving motor is provided which drives, via at least one driving pinion, two driving cables which adjust the roof part and are guided along both sides of the roof 15 opening. In order to provide a drive for a vehicle roof the drive has good operational reliability and provides sufficiently high power, yet at the same time being of small construction. Each driving cable is assigned a respective motor-operated driving pinion.

  • Patent number: 6209945
Abstract: A folding top for a vehicle, particularly for a passenger car, comprises a folding top structure, which is pivotally disposed on vehicle-body-side folding top bases and a folding top covering, the folding top structure having a main hoop and at least one control arm connecting a forward folding top section with the folding top base. While the folding top kinematics are simplified, during the opening operation of the folding top, a coordinated movement takes place between the main hoop and of the control arm disposed in front of the main hoop. An adjusting device is arranged between the material-controlled main hoop and the control arm disposed in front thereof and is operative at least during the opening of the folding top.

  • Patent number: 5829821
Abstract: A folding top for a vehicle, particularly a passenger car, consists of a folding top structure and of a folding top covering, the folding top structure including a rigid substantially plate shaped folding top section which extends adjacent to the windshield frame. The plate-shaped folding top section is supported on the adjoining folding top section by way of B-column control arms, which are constructed in one piece. For linking of the dimensionally stable folding top section adjacent to each B-column control arm, a main control arm is arranged whose one end is pivotably connected to the forward folding top section and whose other end is pivotably connected to a lower control lever, each lower control lever connecting the B-column control arm with a main hoop which spans the passenger compartment in a curved manner and is situated behind it.

  • Patent number: 5765904
Abstract: A folding top for passenger car vehicles is disclosed which can be displaced from a vehicle top closed position into a rearside deposited position and is composed of a supporting folding top structure and a folding top covering interacting therewith. The folding top structure includes a dimensionally stable folding top section which, in the closed position, is arranged adjacent to a windshield frame and can be displaced into the vehicle rear area in such a manner that the outer boundary surface of the dimensionally stable folding top section facing away from the passenger compartment is always directed upwards during the whole adjustment movement. The linking of the folding top covering to the longitudinal sides is designed in such a manner that, in addition to a smooth opening and closing of the folding top, tolerances of the folding top covering can be compensated and an overstretching of the folding top covering during the opening and closing is avoided.

  • Patent number: 5669656
Abstract: A folding top for vehicles, particularly passenger cars, is composed of a folding top structure and a folding top covering, the folding top covering and sealing strips being held in position on lateral frame parts of the folding top structure. So that, in the case of a folding top, the mounting expenditures for changing the folding top covering are reduced and, on the other hand, the surrounding noises in the driving operation which occur at the lateral frame parts are minimized, it is provided that the linkages for the folding top covering and for the sealing strips are provided separately and spaced away from one another on the lateral frame parts. Wall sections of the lateral frame parts extend between the two spaced linkages and are not covered by the folding top covering and form the shell of the vehicle body. The end area of the wall sections facing the folding top covering is constructed such that, together with the adjoining folding top covering, it forms a rain groove.

  • Patent number: 5641193
Abstract: A passenger, particularly a convertible, has a top and a rollover protection arrangement. In order to simplify the mounting of the top and the rollover protection device on the vehicle, while the fastening is appropriate with respect to its function, and in order to reduce the assembling time on the assembly line, the rollover protection device and the top are combined to form a pre-assembled constructional unit produced outside the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5533777
Abstract: An actuating device for a motor vehicle top and a top receptacle cover comprises an actuating lever and a displacement device. By way of the actuating lever which can be pivoted from the driver's seat, the top receptacle cover can be moved between a closed position and an open position and the top between a second operating position and a third operating position. To further improve such an actuating device so that with a simple construction it functions well, avoids errors in manipulation and is easily manipulated, the actuating lever is pivoted in a first direction such that the top receptacle cover is moved from a closed position into an opened position. Consequently, a first coupling element, which is in operative connection with the displacement device, takes up a receiving position in which a second coupling element provided on the top can engage the first coupling element when the top is in the second operating position.

  • Patent number: 5297837
Abstract: An inflatable roof for a passenger car extends in the inflated condition between a windshield frame and a rear area of the vehicle body and is divided into a plurality of air chambers. So that, while the drag coefficient is acceptable, a sufficient stiffness of the roof is achieved and, furthermore, any balloon-like swelling-up of the roof during the inflating of the air chambers is avoided, it is provided that the roof has air chambers with different pressure levels (operating pressure).

  • Patent number: 5096251
Abstract: A folding top for a motor vehicle has a tensioning bow which is arranged on the rearward side of the vehicle and interacts with the folding-top linkage by way of front and rear wind-resisting rods. In order to achieve a taut tensioning of the folding-top covering and avoid a downward and lateral bulging-out of the wind-resisting rods, a supporting device is provided between the tensioning bow and a common connecting area of the two wind-resisting rods. The supporting device, when the folding top is in its closed position, form-lockingly extends around the two wind-resisting rods from below and on both sides of the two wind-resisting rods.
