Abstract: The invention relates to a diagnostic or therapeutic composition comprising a monomeric X-ray contrast medium containing iodine, in particular iopromide, for use in an X-ray assisted diagnosis or therapy and for the use of high doses of an X-ray contrast medium given to a patient, in particular patients with restricted kidney function.

Abstract: The present invention broadly relates to the treatment, diagnosis, and prophylactic prevention of cancer disease. More specifically, the present invention relates to methods and compositions for preventing the endocytosis of radiopharmaceutics into cells of the kidney and the subsequent radioinduced damaging of the kidney catabolism by blocking or interfering with the association or binding of radiotherapeutics and/or radiodiagnostics to the receptor megalin, a member of the LDL-receptor family. In another aspect of the present invention, the expression of megalin is altered, in order to prevent the endocytosis and cellular internalisation of radiopharmaceutics into cells of the kidney.

Abstract: New 24-homo vitamin D derivatives of formula I ##STR1## are described, in which R.sup.1 means a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy, an alkanoyloxy group with 1 to 8 carbon atoms or an aralkanoyloxy group with up to 8 carbon atoms,R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, independently of one another, mean a linear or branched alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a trifluoromethyl group or together mean a saturated carbocyclic ring with 3 to 9 carbon atoms formed with carbon atom 25,R.sup.4 and R.sup.5, independently of one another, mean a hydrogen atom, an alkanoyl group with 1 to 8 carbon atoms or an aralkanoyl group with up to 8 carbon atoms, andA and B each mean a hydrogen or together a second bond, andn stands for 1, 2, 3,4 or 5.

Abstract: The invention discloses side-chain homologous vitamin D derivatives of formula I ##STR1## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, B, and D have the meanings defined in the specification and either (1) A is a direct bond between carbon atoms 20 and 22 and X is an oxy alkylene radical, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n O-- where n is 1 to 3; (2) A is a methylene bridge, --CH.sub.2 --, between carbon atoms 20 and 22 and X is either an alkylene radical, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n -- or an oxy alkylene radical, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n O--, where n is 1 to 3; or (3) if A is a direct bond and B and D together form a second bond, then X(R.sup.5) (R.sup.6) is ##STR2## The compounds possess proliferation-inhibiting and cell-differentiating activity.

Abstract: New 24-oxa derivatives in the vitamin D series of general formula I are described in whichR.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.5, independently of one another, mean a hydrogen atom or an acyl group with 1 to 9 carbon atoms,R.sup.3 means a hydrogen atom or a linear or branched alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms andR.sup.4 means a hydrogen atom each or a linear or branched alkyl group each with 1 to 4 carbon atoms.Pharmaceutical preparations which contain these compounds are also disclosed.
