A plurality of web transport rollers guide the web of media along the web transport path. A drive roller causes the web of media to move along the web transport path. The drive roller has an affixed driven gear driven by a motor using a gear train including one or more drive gears which transfer torque from the motor to the driven gear. The driven gear and the drive gears are constrained to rotate substantially an integer number of times as the web of media is advanced along the web transport path between two successive print locations.

  • Publication number: 20150239234
Abstract: A system for reducing tension fluctuations in a web while printing multiple copies of a print job on the web comprises a printing system with a print station disposed opposite a first side of the web and one or more rollers adapted to receive tension control commands, the tension control commands operating on the first rollers to control the amount of tension in the web. A sensor is used to measure tension changes produced during the printing of the first copy of the print job. A processor is used to determine first tension control adjustments based on the measured tension changes and to use the adjustments to adjust the tension control commands to the rollers in the printing system to change the tension in the web when printing a second copy of the print job, thereby reducing tension fluctuations in the web.

Abstract: A method for reducing tension fluctuations in a web while printing multiple copies of a print job on the web comprises providing a printing system with a print station one or more rollers adapted to receive tension control commands. The tension control commands operate on the rollers to control the amount of tension in the web. The printing system is used to print a first copy of the print job. Tension changes produced during the printing of the first copy of the print job are measured. First tension control adjustments based on the measured tension changes are used to adjust the tension control commands to the rollers in the printing system for printing a second copy of the print job, thereby reducing tension fluctuations.

  • Publication number: 20150239231
Abstract: A method for using tension control adjustments on a web to reduce registration errors while printing multiple copies of a print job on the web comprises providing a printing system with a print station one or more rollers adapted to receive tension control commands. The tension control commands operate on the rollers to control the amount of tension in the web. The printing system is used to print a first copy of the print job. A plurality of registration errors produced during the printing of the first copy of the print job is determined. First tension control adjustments based on the plurality of registration errors are used to adjust the tension control commands to the rollers in the printing system for printing a second copy of the print job, thereby reducing registration errors.

  • Publication number: 20150116734
Abstract: A printer includes first and second marking units for printing respective first and second image planes on a receiver medium. A digital image capture system is positioned between the first and second marking units, and is used to capture an image of a printed first image plane. Image data for the first image plane is compared to the captured image to determine a displacement between a nominal location and an actual location of the printed image data. Corresponding spatial adjustments are applied to image data for the second image plane to reduce alignment errors between the printed image data for the first and second image planes.

  • Publication number: 20150116735
Abstract: A printer includes a marking unit for printing an image plane on a receiver medium. A digital image capture system is positioned downstream of the marking unit, and is used to capture an image of a printed image plane. Image data for the image plane is compared to the captured image to determine a displacement between a nominal location and an actual location of the printed image data. Corresponding spatial adjustments are applied to image data for a subsequent image to reduce alignment errors between the nominal and actual locations of the printed image data in the subsequent image.
